Got the car back together, and I have been running it with no problems, it started on the button and ran consistently. I have just gone back to it about 24 hours later, and have a problem. Key in pos2, and fuel pump starts, but doesn't stop. Key to start position, and just get a click and change in fuel pump speed. I have just turned the engine over by hand to make sure it's not completely fuc kered Taken the top off the fuel tank and I have plenty of fuel. Whacked the starter a bit.
The fuel pump seems to be the first odd thing.
Anybody got any ideas?

Anybody?
Getting desperate as I have booked the bloody transport for it now
Fuel is flowing to the engine and back again, tested that this morning
Battery had dropped to 12.1v, but have charged that overnight.
Does it sound like a fuel pump relay issue? What tells the pump to switch off? Would a fuel pump relay problem not let the starter crank?
Help!

So, found this thread and the light green wire which is the fuel pump trigger from the ECU is always grounded www.miataturbo.net/general-miata-chat-9/fuel-pump-wont-stop-priming-98026/Which means it's not the relay. I think But wtf is it then? And whatever it is is stopping the start from working. Unless I happen to have two unrelated problems. The only thing I have done since it was working was to plug in a hazard switch, and replace the great lever boot!

Not an expert....
... but I think your car is actually haunted.
Do I recall correctly that you refitted the whole loom??
Could you bump start it to get over the non-starting Starter motor?

I think I agree.
Yes, new loom. Had earthing problems (I missed some) previously, but had been spot on since.
I can't put it on the road, and because of the start AND the fuel pump issue, I think it's something electrical.
I posted on nutz as well, and have some things to look at.

You have more patience than me, lol.

Looks like it is a commitment in the ECU that had let the smoke out. So, new component on order to see if I can save it, and an me221 on the way as well .. I had fancied trying it out anyway, and this was a good excuse to throw some money at the problem. Key thing is to make sure it was the ECU that caused the problem in the wiring, and not the other way round ..

Chicken? Egg? lol I need to do similar surgery on a somewhat expensive electronic thing at home - not looking forward to it!

Indeed.
But I really didn't touch anything... So I am hoping it was the ECU.

That diode (?) Under it looks like it got a bit toasty too...

You beat me to it, easy enough to check the diode with a meter. Could even be the cause of the transistor failure.
