I am trying to perform a recharge of my Air Con for my MX-5 MK2 2005

I purchased from eBay a standard recharging cable, but my problem is that it doesn’t fit (too big) it’s a R134a type.

To me it looks like I need some sort of adapter to connect it or have I bought the wrong type ?

Any advice would be helpful.

Look for the other connector, it should be larger and be on a larger OD pipe - that is the low pressure side where you fill it.
