It appears that my petrol filler cap 'flap' thing is getting stuck and not wanting to open. So far I've been able to get in, but I fear that at some point I am going to have to get the screwdrivers out to lever my way in! The cable pull in the cabin is extremely stiff, to the point that I have to be standing outside the car and leaning in with one hand to pull it, while moving the flap bit with the other to try and release it. Any recommendations for fixing this issue? I am thinking some dry lubricant on the 'nipple' that holds the flap securely and is withdrawn to release the flap when the cable is pulled... but should I also try to check the cable routing?? Any thoughts would be very welcome!

oil the cable? or replace it?? think I've a spare somewhere but they're one of the parts that don't usually fail so should be easily available cheaply on ebay Rich.

Is it the flap or the cable? Disconnect the cable and see how freely the lid moves.

LOL I forgot to come back to this thread - I'm sure my answer won't surprise you Instead, though, the petrol flap is now popping up of its own accord when driving along! You can press and click it shut when parked, but once moving, 'ping' and up it comes! I am presuming the shaft (snigger) is getting stuck in its holder (technical term), hence difficulty opening and (presumably) then not sticking out far enough to apply pressure to the catch part of the lid.

One mustn't hurry these things... On the lube front would something like graphite (from a pencil?) do the dry-lube thing??
