Hi Folks, I have thrown my entry in for the Plymouth Motor Club Werrington Park hillclimb. 30 April, 1 May Entry list opened and got filled up in less than 24 hours. I will not be using my NS2r tyres as the hill is often damp and covered in sheep prarrie canoe / dust although the team do their best to clean it.
I am at Wiscombe on 9th May with the Old Banger which is now 88 years old and I have owned it for 30 years !!!

Damn, these hillclimbs look fun but unless the camera is deceiving one wrong move could really f%^k your car up.

Hi Phil1d, The Werrington Hill is up a stately homes front drive, It is not wide enough for two cars to pass each other unless one stops and pulls off to the side. The cattle grid has a metal plate welded over it which can unsettle a car, I am doing about 70 mph across the cattle grid, the gate is a bit wider than it used to be !!!.
just behind the hairpin is a ten foot high stone wall in front of you as you turn into it. There are dry stone walls just off the track in the top section as well. So getting it wrong gets expensive.

You were having a busy old time keeping hold of it with that much RWD power so nice that you could give a thumbs up as you went out of Pardon the second time!

I just came to rest against the tyres around one of the trees. The mark just polished out😂 The Griff takes a bit of hanging on to when giving it the beans with no electronic gizmos; not very powerful only 295hp but 340lbft torque at low ish revs really makes it go nicely. It’s slightly (20kg) lighter than my MX5.

Just had to duck out of Gurston 16/17th April. Gutted.
Still, I’ll hopefully be well enough for Aintree on the 30th.

The Scottish season kicked off with a sprint at a very cold Kames at the weekend, 15 MX5's in the same class, the top 8 drivers were separated by just 0.8seconds at the end of the day! Great close racing.

Herts County club ran a sprint at the Lotus test track at Hethel on Sunday, I was in class A3, alongside three 'proper' Minis and a 2016 Fiesta (998cc turbo). It was warm and sunny all day and everything went very smoothly so we got a practice run and four timed runs in and were finished by 2pm! I had my new set of wheels with the R888Rs on, for the first time, and they made quite a difference - I had basically the same time on my practice run as my fastest time from two events at the same track last year. Ended up nearly 5 seconds quicker, and was going faster on my last run but overcooked it and span out at the last chicane. Didn't make a difference to the class results, one of the Minis was unnaturally fast and beat me by nearly 6s, so I was 2nd in class followed by the Fiesta (+4s) and the other Minis (+6 and +9s). They don't allow photography/videos at Hethel, which is a shame as it's a fabulous track with lovely esses, hairpins and a long straight. Grabbed a couple of cheeky pics in the paddock though:

Hi Folks, That was a fun weekend at Werrington Park. Saturday was dry and dusty and I achieved a personnel best in the car Whoopee !!! It was still 6.5 seconds behind David Newman in his very powerfull ITB Mk1 The fastest car in class was an Audi Turbo with Four Wheel drive. I did manage a faster 64ft than David on one run by .03 of a second. One of the turbo mazdas threw its power steering belt then sprung a leak in the rad so he only played on Saturday.
The Sunday was Damp and soggy drizzle and light rain all day I was 4.16 seconds slower in the rain. Poor David had electrical gremlins after his practice runs so dropped out of the running. Again Audi fastest, Turbo Mazda Mk3 next, Audi, Tailgate McNoIndicate, Mini ( Pretend one ) then me.
All in all I had a great time and drove to the event from home on both days and drove home without any drama. The car went very well for me though and felt very balanced. I will try and put a video up.
