I have just been looking for a repacement gearbox, and all i can find is people asking $1900-2000 for a second hand box.
Am i going mental? Or is this what they are going for now?

our neighbour runs a transmission business... but given how bad his (adult) son was at looking after our garden, I'm not sure I trust them...

This is more of a work ethic issue... But I think it's better than buying another 30 year old unknown gearbox.
I was just thinking that I may a well get a 6 speed if I was going to change it.
But I think a rebuild is a better option now
