Got a 2010 mk3, not long been a mx5 owner so learning fast. I returned from holiday to find the interior covered in mould, driver bay soaking wet, mould in the boot and in the roof stowing area, feeling rather sick i called mazda croydon, london who informed me id have to leave the car with them for about 10days and it would cost £800 plus vat. Now i thought they'd just offer to sort it. Desperate to fix my wee car i went searching and there seems to be very varying solutions. My drain holes have a mesh covering and i cant even get my arms in to try removing them, other vids i watched left me none the wiser except now knowing i had blocked drainage pipes. SO, pissed at mazda and not wanting to part with best part of a grand i used vanish drain unblocker, poured about 250ml down each side, watched eagerly and nothing happened, however the next morning there was a very satisfying puddle of brown leaf litter sludge on both sides of the car, i then poured some water through and out it came clear. I've since wondered if the plastic tubes would have been damaged by the corrosive agent of drain cleaner thus need replacing asap. That said, ive dried out and cleaned the car and as yet no signs of flooding. Have i lucked out? or am i in for a prarrie canoe surprise?

Lucky, keep an eye on them now you know where they are. Front leak will be caused by a perished gasket underneath a scuttle mounting on both passenger and drivers sides. Well documented on forums and YouTube. You can either buy a new one for a few quid or remove, clean up and reseal the originals with silicone.

Good to see Mazda captured the same design issues, I mean 'features', in the later models that we see in the original mk1... lol
