Hi All What's the best way to sell a very extensively modified (*) '5 these days? The 'forum scene' for 5's seems to have shrunk to the point of almost nothing nowadays, I don't do facebook (and when I have ventured on there, it seems full of chavs and idiots), so that leaves autotrader / pistonheads - the former is more for standard family cars, the latter might be the best option I guess? Or even brave the idiots on ebay? Any other suggestions or leads to someone who may be interested? I'm still in two minds whether to sell or not - the car has been tucked away since before COVID in the garage, and has probably only been used a few summers out of the last 7 or 8. It could do with a few things doing to it to get an MOT, and a few more to make it 'really nice' (although it's more functional than a minter) - but I just don't have the spare time or the enthusiasm at the moment And I bought something else rather special as a sort-of-grown-up replacement as well, and could do with putting that in the garage instead! (*) Mk1 RS-Ltd with some of the original RS bits (1 Recaro!), forged vvt engine, 6 speed box, Ardler E1 turbo kit, megasquirt, FM 3" exhaust, P5 suspension, 300whp/350+fwhp, yadda yadda yadda. Too modded to realistically part it out and put it back to standard.

Have a look at carandclassics.com. What's the rather special grown up replacement?

My guess a TVR?
Pistonheads or Facebook, forged builds command a premium especially a sorted one. Might be worth getting an MOT on it and listing it, especially if it doesn't need a lot.

Thanks. MOT wise it should pass with no issues. The sills need a little work - I have the repair panels for both sides from mx5restorer but just haven't gotten round to doing it yet.
Clue 2 : Not a TVR, but has many things in common with one.

Nissan Micra convertible Sport. If that's the first thing that comes into mind when you think of a TVR, you win some free counselling

Clue 2 : Not a TVR, but has many things in common with one. If the something in common was a fibreglass body, and in a 2+2 that could suggest Lotus, Reliant, Alpine?

It may do...
Clue 3 : To eliminate one of those - it has a v6 sourced from a mainstream manufacturer...

It may do... Clue 3 : To eliminate one of those - it has a v6 sourced from a mainstream manufacturer... Evora? We have a winner.. An Evora 400 Hethel Edition, to be really specific. In 'Motorsport Black' & Alcantara. It seems Lotus likes pointless 'special editions' just as much as Mazda does... It really is a very lovely thing. Steering feel is very similar to a well sorted '5, the suspension is incredible, and the exhaust note, even as standard is absolutely mental. There's a switchable 'exhaust protection valve' which opens at ~4000RPM which unleashes howling fury (https://youtu.be/BIu4ckN4Lzs?t=88 - wait until at least 2 mins, and again from 2:30) that sounds like a mini-supercar, not something with a Camry engine It is a lovely thing

That’s very interesting that you say the suspension is incredible. I too am looking at a possible car change, not the NC that I have, another, and I was wondering about the Evora. One of the very best cars I ever had for an amazing ride, even in our crap roads was my VX220 Turbo. Hmmmm.
Regards. Rich.

The suspension is very, very good - the roads round here (Wiltshire) are terrible but it soaks up potholes and poor road surfaces very well, without feeling harsh or like it's going to break your spine. It's not without it's quirks though - the visibility is pretty poor - most of what you can see in the rear view mirror is engine (although you can see the supercharger boost actuator working, which is fun), the side mirrors aren't great either and you can spend hours trying to figure out where parts have been stolen from other cars (stalks are from a mk1 focus, headlight switch from a Vauxhall, mirrors from a Proton, rear lights from an HGV trailer!) but it is absolutely fantastic to drive
