Popup healights being odd.
Lights themsleves work fine - high and low beam.
The right hand motor wasn;t working, so i swapped it out for a second hand unit. That one got red hot as soon as it was plugged in - so clearly buggered as well. So, without a right hand motor plugged in, the left hand one is still doing odd things.
Thhe popup switch doe sthe opposite of what you woudl expect.
Any clues?
These things are getting bloody expensive now. So I am thinking about making them manual... It is pretty much a track day car (not that i have done one for ages) or nice weather car So i dodn;t need them to pop up automatically. The only other thing is that when i plug in the right hand motor, it makes a single backlight onthe dash be on all the time. Wasnlt sure if that was due to a knackered motor, or something wrong witht he wiring...

Is it possible to reverse the earth and the live on the motors? Would that reverse the operation? lol

Thanks…
I have bought a second hand motor to see if that makes a difference. But I’m not hopeful. I think I’ll end up just leaving them as manual winding. Ideally removing the motors. I’d like some fixed lights but I’m not sure I can really justify the expense. Parts are suddenly expensive now.

I'v only had motors getting hot when something was stopping the headlight from opening/closing fully, presumably because they were still trying to reach their movement end-points! Weird if it is just getting hot while seemingly not doing anything. I hate dealing with electricity. It is in the box marked 'magic' in my head Fixed lights may not be the best in terms of performance, though - all the 'droopy-eyed' conversions I've seen seem to have weak output!

You could unplug the operating loom and manually raise the lamps for MOT test and night driving.

Magically, the battery has stopped draining now as well… motor was clearly Canoeed. I agree on electrics. Absolutely incomprehensible.
I could easily just run without lights… for a couple of reasons.
There are no tests that this car has to go through to drive on the road (New Jersey). The only test that exists is emissions, and anything older than 1995 doesn’t even need to do that. The state of cars here is mental.
I never drive it at night. And so I really only want them in case I ever get caught somewhere at night in an emergency. But I could easily go ‘race car spec’
So the mechanism can be as Heath Robinson as I like.
I agree about output of flush lights. I had some a while back and they were dreadful. But looked cool…

Jazz lights. And if you need it, hide a led bar in the mouth

Jazz lights. And if you need it, hide a led bar in the mouth i think i'm just going to delete at the moment - or make them manual... can;t really justify the expense of jazz (although they were my first choice) for a situation that is never going to happen... I've been away, and a new motor arrvied in my absence. So will try that and see what happens.
