Howdy.
Fizbne here again.
Tomorrow a nice dude is coming to have a 2nd viewing of my B-Spec Roadster. I've owned this car since August 2018, the longest time I've continously owned an MX5, the longest car I've owned ever, and hands down the best car I have ever owned.
I said to myself when I bought this car that I'd never let this one go - That it'll be my "forever car" and if I wanted to get something else, I'd just stick it in a garage / cover it up and "forget about it" so to speak and just maintain it.
There are a few reasons for getting rid, a big one being the ULEZ expansion in London. Canoe you Mayor, I hope you choke. Anyways.
Another reason, is that I quite simply can't afford an additional performance / sports car to supplement my Roadster.
The main reason though is that I think I need to move on. This is my 6th MX5, and I've never really explored other performance / fun cars. I've driven many many other cars, both on the road and on track, but I've not had the pleasure of owning anything else. As much as I love MX5's, I love the automotive world as a whole even more, and sticking to a single make & model is detrimental to my journey of owning / trying cool things and learning how to drive other cars fast.
On that note, I think I've gotten to the point where I've really gotten to know my car. I know every creak, noise, rattle, characteristic, and I know if / when exactly something is off and what it is. Then of course there's the handling - Driving it is second nature to me. It does exactly what I want it to do, and I know exactly what the car will do. I have truly achieved Jinba-Ittai with this machine.
I'm real sad that my car may be sold tomorrow, but at the same time I'm excited at the prospect of what's coming up - I've made a decision of what I want to explore next - An MR-S, ideally with the 2ZZ-GE swap already done. I drove a well sorted one at a trackday last year, and it was a real eye opening experience that made me realise that sticking to one car for so long is holding back my development as a driver. If not an MR-S, then definitely something mid-ship.
So yeah, just a little blog style post I guess?
Saying all this, I know loads of other people who have embarked on the same No-MX5 journey and have come back full circle, because as they say: "Miata Is Always The Answer" - which I'm sure it is. But, I'm not one to take things on faith, I have to learn by myself.
My journey starts soon. Wish me luck.
