Howdy folks.
I apologise if this is a subject which has been covered ad-nauseam, as I'm sure it has. I promise I have already done a bit of research on the almonds forum and elsewhere, but I would really value some further opinion on the matter.
Essentially, I am happy with my car - it runs well, reasonable MPG, quick enough to have fun on a B road, reliable etc. However, I can't deny the fact that I like the idea of just a teensy weenie bit quicker acceleration when I want it. I'm not interested in massive great hooning BHP figures, nor am I planning on tracking the car, just wouldn't mind a little more torque when putting my foot down.
I'm also a fairly lazy bugger and don't like the idea of all the hassle involved in installing and setting up a turbo.
So, from my research so far, it would seem to me that a supercharger may be the way to go. Modest gains in torque and BHP (plenty for me), easy(ish) to install, easy to revert back to stock if required.
So, a few questions if I may be so bold:
1) Is it worth it? I'll need to invest a bit of money into a supercharger kit (new seems to be around the £1,000 mark), so should I bother for a modest gain in power? Will I really notice it? Or is it actually better for me just to save my money, relax and enjoy NA lyfe.
2) Do I need to invest in any other engine equipment (eg. upgrade the ECU, new injectors, etc)? In other words - can I literally just bolt on a supercharger and away I go?
3) Am I likely to affect the reliability and/or the lifespan of the engine by adding a supercharger?
4) What kit would people recommend? I want something well-built and reliable. Should I buy new or is second-hand a feasible option?
Thanks everyone
