Hi there ladies and gentlemen
I am the proud owner of my first MX5 which I have named Tina (as in Tina Turner)
I was recommended to come here by the guys at Skuzzle

This is Tina's classified ad
Having to sell my weekend/track toy due to moving to China for work.
The car is one of the first Eunos Roadsters ever built – chassis no 100137 and it was originally imported in 2001.
It was then converted for hill climbing in 2009 and campaigned in the HSA in 2009 & 2010.
Prior to our ownership, it was owned by two mature gentlemen who used it for track days over 3 years. In their ownership, they had it serviced and maintained by Paul Roddison of Roddison’s Motorsport. Paul is one of the UK’s top MX5 racers and mechanic/builder of some of the best MX5 racing cars in the country.
When the original 1.6 engine’s head gasket gave up, they commissioned Paul to fit a later 1.8i VVT engine and 6 speed ‘box out of a mk2.5 MX-5 which had been written off due to hailstone damage.
I was shown the Paypal transaction details for the engine by the previous owner which was acquired from a member of the MX5 Nutz forum and it was on 67k when fitted. The previous owner suspected they may have added 5k to this and I’d be surprised if I’ve added another 1.
The loom from the 1.8i VVT engine was used so the VVT works exactly as it should and Paul has done some great work-arounds to ensure that the lights/horn/windows all work as they should. The engine pulls very strongly – dyno’d at about 145bhp after it was fitted – and although that’s not a huge number, it moves the lightweight MK1 body along rather swiftly!
Myself and my partner bought the car last July to use as a track/weekend toy and it has been great. Although we have only done on track day in it – Mallory Park in September, the car has been great fun on the country lanes around Warwickshire and it never fails to bring a smile to my face – the handling really is fabulous!
When we bought the car it had lots more stickers on it which I have removed as I wanted it to be a little more inconspicuous to use it more frequently on the road. Removing these revealed some laquer peel and there are scratches/imperfections on most panels, as well as some battle scars from getting it in and out of a tight single garage! Where there is laquer, it has detailed up to a nice lustrous shine, where there isn’t, you can see the outlines of where it is missing. This has never bothered me as it is a track car not a show car but please bear in mind, it is 26 years old and not perfect… More importantly the sills/arches are solid with no signs of rust. The car had sill repairs for the MOT in Jun/Jul 2014 and as a result, these won’t need to be touched for a long time, especially with it always been garaged - it is only insured as garaged.
Before doing anything with the car, I removed the Hard Dog roll bar and welded some 4mm steel plates into the boot floor for added safety as I wasn’t too keen on the idea of it only being mounted to the standard metal. The roll bar was then re-fitted with the Hard Dog under-floor plates and new M10 Bolts and Nylock nuts.
Other things I have done during our ownership are replaced the rear discs & pads, added SuperPro diff void fillers and some MX5Parts / IL Motorsport competition engine mounts. I also bought but haven’t yet fitted some SuperPro Rear ARB bushes & the matching droplink bushes which I will throw in with the car, along with 5l of Castrol Magnatec 5W30 fully synth, ready for the next track day.
The best thing about this car is the fact that it has a modern engine/ecu and standard exhaust. Therefore its road manners, other than a very firm ride, make it really rather easy to drive on the road. It has actually become my daily drive since my Golf sold on Auto Trader within a few hours of going live 2 weeks ago and has proven to be a great way to get to work in a good mood!
Other specs:
• Fully Road legal – MOT until August 2016
• Gaz Pro Gold Coilovers – arguably the best for the MX5
• Genuine Mazda Hardtop with heated rear screen – not wired up. Makes the journey to and from track days much more pleasant.
• Mishimoto Aluminium Radiator
• OZ Racing Superleggera 15” wheels
• Federal RS-R semi-slick tyres with plenty of tread – super sticky
• Goodridge braided brake lines
• Hard Dog roll bar
• Sparco Seats
• TRS & Sabelt harnesses
• OMP steering wheel
• Geometry set up by Roddisons Motorsport in July 2014
• Standard discs all round with Roddison’s Motorsport front pads & Mintex rears
• ATE Super Blue Racing fluid (DOT4) – remaining fluid will be supplied with car
• New Bosch Battery in April 2016 – the proper size
• Original heater removed and replaced by an electric dash mounted one
• Standard exhaust with CAT for ease of MOT (although I’m pretty sure not a legal requirement on an ’89 car
• Strut Brace
• Standard 1.6i ‘diff
• No stereo but headphones work well!
• Wear on the seat bolsters but both comfortable and very supportive
I feel the car is reasonably priced given the spec and overall package - although I may be open to sensible offers!
