Rather than discussing the more affordable end of the spectrum, I'm more interested in which 2-way and 3-way adjustable coilovers are available, prices, value for money, and hopefully any personal experience that might be available.
Nitron NTR R3
£3114
NTR R3 SYSTEM
The NTR R3 system sets the standard for ultimate performance with a design that offers drivers and engineers unparalleled damping control.
3-Way independent damping adjustment. By incorporating our class leading large diameter piston and ultra-strong piston rod, the R3 system demonstrates outstanding levels of performance, damping control and adjustment. Piggyback or remotely mounted reservoir allows quick and simple independent adjustment of rebound and fast and slow compression damping. The large range of adjustment and quality of feedback allows the experienced driver to fully exploit the full potential of their car. The R3 is a proven race winner and lap record holder across a wide spectrum of international motorsport formulas.
The high-grade materials protect against corrosion whilst reducing weight. Every R3 kit is custom built, sprung and fully serviceable. Titanium and hard-anodised parts are hand built to last not only the lengthiest endurance races, season after season, but also the harshest of winters.
Bi-Axis Hose Fittings
NTR Hose shocks are fitted with Nitron’s exclusively developed Bi-Axis fittings that allow for simple and precise installation.

The ER type Coilovers are a premium quality monotube coilover kit from BC Racing with external oil reservoirs plus independent control of both bump and rebound damping. The ER coilovers also come with pillowball top mounts.
This ER type coilover set (ER-N-04) fits the Mazda MX5 Mk1 models, manufactured from 1989 to 1997.
The standard Mazda MX5 coilover kit comes with 8kg front springs and 6kg rear springs. Alternate spring-rates can be chosen at no extra cost to customise the BC Coilover kit to your specific needs.
30 way adjustable damping - separate rebound and compression
External oil reservoirs
Large Diameter Mono-tube damper with twin piston design
Height adjustment via bottom mount to retain full damper travel
Adjustable spring platform for corner weighting
Includes pillowball top mounts as standard
Nitrogen pressurised dampers
Custom Spring rates *made to order on request*
BC RACING ER SERIES FEATURES
46mm diameter pistons / 53mm diameter damper body
The BC Racing ER series coilovers use a larger 46mm diameter piston in a 53mm diameter damper body to maximise the oil capacity. The larger outer shafts give additional strength enabling them to cope with higher side loads.
External Reservoirs
These BC Racing ER series coilovers The external reservoirs hold much more oil than conventional coilovers, allowing the unit to operate for much longer before overheating.
2-way adjustable Damping - Separate Rebound and Compression Adjustment
the external reservoirs also house a secondary piston, which allows for separate adjustment of rebound and compression damping. Rebound damping is adjusted on the top of shock and compression damping is adjusted on the external reservoir

This ZR type coilover set (ZR-N-04) fits the Mazda MX-5 Mk1 (NA) models, manufactured from 1989 to 1997.
The standard Mazda MX-5 coilover kit comes with 8kg front springs and 6kg rear springs. Alternate spring-rates can be chosen at no extra cost.
Mono-tube damper with 3 way adjustable damping
Inverted damper design (depending on models)
30 clicks of rebound adjustment
12 clicks of high speed compression adjustment
15 clicks of low speed compression adjustment
Height adjustment via bottom mount to retain full damper travel
Adjustable spring platform for corner weighting
1 year limited warranty against manufacturer defects
What are the BC Racing ZR 3-way Coilovers?
The ZR-type coil-overs are a track focused coil-over kit suited for drivers wanting to find the ultimate handling setup for their race or trackday car by tuning the car setup to both driver preference and road conditions. ZR series coilovers have 30-clicks of rebound adjustment, 15 clicks of low speed compression and 12 clicks of high speed compression adjustment.
BC Racing's ZR Series models offer full height adjustability, independent of piston travel and spring pre-load. On cars with McPherson struts the ZR Series comes with an inverted mono-tube damper to lower unsprung weight. External reservoirs are connected to the damper bodies via steel braided Teflon coated lines so they can be remotely mounted in the engine bay or trunk. As the coilover bodies are smaller and more compact; cars with double wishbone suspension come with upright monotube dampers. They will have either steel braided lines exiting the damper at the bottom so the external reservoirs can be mounted under the chassis, or a solid stem that mounts on the shock body itself.
ZR TYPE COILOVER FEATURES
Mono-tube inverted dampers (Cars with McPherson struts only):
Reduced Damper Flex
The BC Racing ZR Coilovers use large 42mm inverted monotube dampers. This inverted style allows both the inner and outer tubes to take all of the side loads encountered when cornering. This reduced flex of the BC Racing ZR series gives a more predictable steering feel and improved responsive handling. It also improves the life of the BC Racing damper seals.
Reduced unsprung weight
The mono-tube inverted damper design on the BC Racing ZR series coilovers has a number of advantages, including reducing unsprung weight by moving the oil and gas reservoir way from the hub and attaching it to the shell.
Reduced heat transfer
By inverting the coilover damper the oil and gas is moved away from the hub assembly. This means that less heat is transferred to the oil under braking which makes for more consistent damping.
External Reservoirs
These BC Racing ZR series coilovers The external reservoirs hold much more oil than conventional coilovers, allowing the unit to operate for much longer before overheating.
3-way adjustable Damping - Separate Rebound and High / Low Speed Compression Adjustment
The external reservoirs also house a secondary piston, which allows for separate adjustment of rebound and high / low speed compression damping. Rebound damping is adjusted on the top of shock and compression damping is adjusted on the external reservoir.
