Hi! Hopefully one you you lovely people can help me before I commit gruesome automotive murder.
I changed my clutch at the weekend, before the gearbox came off I marked the PPF holes, and left the front bolt in the diff since this is all literature led me to believe this is the precision fit one.
All bolts left a nice ghost mark were they were. Fitted clutch etc. etc. put it all back together, ensure PPF bolts were in the correct position and torqued them up. *Big sigh of relief* *dust hands together in a satisfied manner and walk away having changed the clutch* BUT WAIT! Insert little eunos wickedly laughing in a mr. Burns manner here..
Take it out yesterday to begin the bedding in process as recommended by FM.. seems good. I then begin to notice at certain points (particularly 2-3k rpm in 1st, 2nd and 3rd) on the over run and slightly harder acceleration there is a hellish racket coming from the box, a sort of very harsh vibration. Its tricky to describe but its a far louder version of the normal light gearbox noise, but it is LOUD! Also kicks in gradually at say 2k rpm, builds up then suddenly stops around 3k rpm and returns to normal, same thing on the over-run back down.
ANYWAY, I scratch my head do a spot of googling and EURIKA! It must be the PPF not sat quite right. Stuck the car on ramps this afternoon, loosened it off, jacked it into position measured it in a very cramped manner, seems right; tighten up an torque and drive it. Maybe slightly better? Still not right though repeat the process: Ahhhh its 3mm out; around 69mm from the frame rails to underside of the PPF. Adjustment made it is now and currently still is bang on 66mm from the straight edge across the frame rails to the bottom of the PPF in between the gearbox mount.
Loud as ever, if not louder its a horrible mechanical sound and its both concerning and annoying in equal measure. Could do with sorting it though as A.I have many miles to bed it in this week left to do B.I want to go blast around Brecon this weekend which is in itself an hour and a half away.
