I've done a few miles on these now. Very impressed. Shark skin technology, yes that's a thing!
For reference I was running on Yokohamma AO48Rs before switching to these so I'm coming from running essentially semi slicks. Dry weather - Loads of grip as they're quite soft compound. Turn in and rear stability are excellent which was a surprise, not at all wobbly and loads of feel. They let go quite progressively and give you plenty of warning. Wet weather - Epic. I drove through a monsoon on Wednesday and was dead impressed. Standing water was dealt with like it wasn't there and grip and feel were little different from dry conditions. If you're running 185 14's I can't recommend these enough. My only caveat would be if you do track work I suspect you'll ruin them quite quickly on a dry track due to how soft they are and how much spread there is in the tread blocks. On a wet trackday you'll probably be the fastest thing out there. As an all round road tyre for a 14" wheel shod MX5 I don't think there's anything better out there. They punch well above their price point and seems they're a vast improvement over the previous Rain Expert with the different tread pattern. you can get them here for a shade over £30 each www.camskill.co.uk/m4b0s398p127239/Uniroyal_Tyres_Car_Uniroyal_RainExpert3_Uniroyal_Rain_Expert_3_-_185_60_R14_82H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB

Any idea what the difference is between RainSport 3 and RainExpert 3? I have run the RS3 and thought it was a very good tyre. Dry was very good; wet was outstanding.

The Rainexperts are similar to the Rainsports. Experts only seem to come in 14" and below and Sports in 15" and above. The tread pattern is similar but not the same between the two. I can't comment on the compound. I ran RainSports in 195/50/15 on th erear of my old MK2 10AE and to be honest they were very similar to these 14" RainExperts in every respect.

I emailed Uniroyal through their website & asked what the difference was. Bizarrely I just got an out of office from some Uniroyal person in Germany saying they won't be back for 2 weeks! I shall report back here in early June if Muzzy Hilmi checks his/her e-mails when they get back.

I had some Rainsport (I think) 2s on the front. Nice tires on the road but one day on the front at Buxton Raceway (fairly corear canoe tarmac) and they were ruined and had marbled up and scrubbed to the point where I could see metal filaments hanging out of some of the treadblocks. I have Rainexpert (1s) on the front at the moment which seem a little harder but nonetheless very grippy. Haven't tried drifting with them yet though. I have a pair of Rainsport 3s in the garage that I bought when they were on offer but I am not sure whether I am ever going to need them now as I am tempted to go for Yoko/nankang on the front next time and I only use Sunny brand on the rear nowadays.

I had RainExperts on the missus' old Hyundai Accent at one point, as they were the only thing with a decent review in the size I needed. Top marks IMO, excellent dry grip and wet grip, and they were fun in the snow too lol

I have Rainsport 3's on my wet track / daily wheels and they're epic, I'm almost wishing for a wet track day so I can use them in anger without fear of puddles! Lol

Jayne has these on her car. They have been on for about 10 months now, and still look new and have loads of life left in them, they seem to wear quite well, of course she isn't as hard on tyres as most of us, mind. When I need new boots I'll be putting four of these on.

I'm only running 14" steels on my NA. Would they be any good??
I wonder if I could fit an alternative size to the steels?

I run rainsport 3s in a 225/40 18 on my 1.8t golf and have found them to be great in all conditions so im not surprised the rainexpert are a good tire. Will definately run these on the mx5 when i change wheels or maybe try the rainexpert if i keep my 14s
