So I had a mk1 from Cribbox but it needed more work than I had time to really throw at it, so I cut my losses and sold it on for what I paid to a friend. Hopefully they keep it and get it on the road, but more likely a parts car.
At this point I was looking for a replacement, Id gone 2 years previous without a 5 and that was too long. So the itch needed to be scratched, mainly so I could start having fun again and get back on the track!
A friend still had his rather nice mk2 for sale, it had been since my original mk1 died at Castle Combe showing the VAG guys how to track
So while looking at a few other cars I popped over to Gloucester and took one look and knew this was the car to buy.
I knew the owner, had seen the car being used on local meets, and knew the car had been looked after. Problem solved and deal agreed, even got a bit of discount!
The car is a 1.6 mk2 with the performance pack option, so factory fitted body kit basically. Its had the interior upgraded to the mk2.5 heated seat, mk2.5 dash and dials, the clocks being swapped. Mileage is estimated due to km to mph swap but around the 55,000 mark, showing 88,000 on the MOT paper and dials for continuity.
Paul said he would MOT the car and then I could pick it up.....here in started some issues, the MOT tester was being really canoe. A spring was unseated and another snapped. These were swapped and sorted so back in for another test....MOT man said the spring was still unseated at the top!
Quick adjust but by the time it was back at the garage the man had gone home for the day....its now getting close to japday and the cars first show!
In Thursday and finally all passed after the MOT tester decided the unseated spring had snapped! Paul frantically got his dad to help swap it out and replace the track rod end that broke in the swap.
I couldn't collect that evening as I went straight from working one job to the next, but I left work early on the Friday and got a mate to drive me down, or rather I used his v8 AMG and its fuel while he sat scrutinising my driving haha.
No time for a wash so Saturday morning took the car to Castle Combe with Combustionpunks, would have been on the mighty5s stand had I not already booked on.
I had on the Thursday, once the MOT was passed, booked a track session at the show.....
So less than 24 hours after picking up the car I lined up for my first proper session in 2 years!
I loved it, the roof was down, sun was shining and I was back doing what I love.
Anyway here are some pictures friends took, I have video footage but its poop and boring lol.
