What I both like and hate about the 5 engines is that they just seem to keep on giving power as the revs increase - I like it because it means thrashing the tits off them is the best way to make progress but I hate it because it means you have to be careful not to bang into the limiter during overtakes lol

Very impressive guys. Just 1 newbie question.... Are you all reving yours to 7000rpm+? I've just got a SC vvtMk2.5 & am wondering if it's safe to rev it that highly?

yep no issue at all, if you keep your foot down the engine should cut power to prevent anything blowing up. Obviously if you regularly hit 7k revs it wont do the engine much good but the odd blip every now and then wont do any harm.

Ok thanks. I used to regularly drive a MK1 1600 on ITBs that used to thrive on revs but was wondering about over speeding the blower. Also mine is on ME221 & have yet to hit a rev limiter. To the more educated than me- do these ECUs have one? Also do they drive the vvt? Cheers again for your help. The mk1-

I had my auxiliary belt jump off and shred itself during an accidently-off-the-limiter overtake A DRE Shiftlight has helped reduce the chance of it happening again! (The irony being I had it at home waited to be fitted when the above happened... lol)

Overfueling quite a bit so new O2 sensor & got 98.6 at the wheels in the end, cat back & 14deg advanced timing. Then ebay T28 on 0.8 bar, MS2 & Rx8 yellows later saw 200 at the wheels on 0.8 bar (with slipping clutch slight missfire that was due to plug gaps).

That looks like it must be interesting to drive in the wet when it comes on boost... lol

That looks like it must be interesting to drive in the wet when it comes on boost... lol It was indeed after we turned the boost up haha. In the wet it would break traction in 5th gear, had to be carefull in the rain. New set-up should be a little less punchy - smaller exhaust housing & ball bearings

Power is at the wheels so about 280bhp. That's an fm2 set up hybrid 2560r Fm 3" downpipe into 2.5" mid section. Rc 550's Hydra nemesis Ecuador Mk2 inlet mani and lifters 16psi. Need to give nick a ring and get back on the dyno in January and jack the boost up a little More!
