Couldn't decide which section to put this in but in order to improve cooling to main rad and lose some weight from the track day warrior we're planning on sacking off the air con. Have found some threads on other forums though none with any working pictures.
Any advice appreciated, I've seen that I need a plastic pipe to "plumb" the heater matrix back together. Sorry if this sounds a bit vague but the cars kept 40 miles from me so trying g to get info together before attacking it on Tuesday night.
Oh I know kW I'll need a new aux belt for non PS.

Oh and are the bits worth anything used I. E. Should I be careful with anything or just tear it out?

1. Drain the gas (kind of unfriendly to the ozone) 2. Remove everything, if the compressor and condenser is in nice shape, you might be able to sell them. Not for much, and if not plugged, the compressor will die. 3. remember to remove the mount, that thing is heavy. 4. replace the bolt facing forward (ac mount) with a 8x1.25x45mm bolt, You will get an annoying oil leak otherwise as this is pass through. the original bolt is too long, you may shorten it to 45mm. 5. remove the ac-box thingy from the interior, replace with non-ac plastic pipe, or do what I did and fint a ventilation hose in a proper size (130mm dia ca.) and get it on with cable ties, slightly tricky. 6. plug holes in firewall and drain hole in transmission tunnel, you'll need large rubber plugs for this. gaffer tape is a temporary solution. 7. replace belt with non-ac version. 8. enjoy the summer heat and added lightness.

Brilliant, that's really helpful.
Current system doesn't work so I suspect has no gas in it anyway.
Thanks again

Is it a fairly easy job to do on a driveway?
Other than a different tube is there anything else you need? A different belt?
A local specialist wants £70 to do it but I wonder if I could do the job myself?!
Cheers!

Piece of cake, though ours had no gas in it to start with.
Condenser dropped straight out the front (car was up on quite big axle stands). Only one of the pipes round the engine bay needed chopping prior to removal. Everything else is unbolt and drop out except cutting down the bolt to 45mm as advised above). Took a couple of hours all in (maybe less). We've not taken the heat exchanger out yet as waiting for pipe.
Yes you need the non AC Aux belt (£6 I think), remember there are two bolts for the power steering pump accessed through the pump wheel (makes sense when you look at it).
Question I forgot to ask though, we wired the two green wires behind the dash to create the fan override when the AC button is pushed but to my surprize the idle still goes up a lot (1500rpm). Any idea how to lower this with the AC button on, but no AC system in the car?

I read on the owners club forum that they were offered as a Jap dealer mazdaspeed upgrade kit. I bought some second hand last year and they are quite a bit thicker than the standard version they replaced. You should be able to claw some coin back selling those.

Thanks for that, the one we've bought is definitely thicker (had to use replacement ARB uethathane mounts with bigger OD that came with it) but i'm pleased the rear one is already uprated over standard.
