Hi all, thought I'd finally start a build thread on here after ditching the nutz forum of some months back, so I'll try to keep it short and sweet.
I bought my first mx5 back in 2012 and immediately fell in love with it! It was a jdm mk1 1.6 mx5 completely standard, didn't really have any trick bits on it at all but loved it all the same
being only 18 at the time and relatively immature I would say all I wanted was lows and wheels which is what I did and very soon realised that things are cheap for a reason, this was realised with the purchase and fitment of some certain TA Technix coilovers, awful dosent even come close! So after growing up over the next year or so I got some hsds and really got into track days, that's when power was being craved and eventually was achieved!
Many pictures have been lost over the years so this is really all I have, but I loved it! The power, the handling even down to the vast amount of niggly vibrations throughout the cockpit, it just felt raw and real and that's what I loved!
This brings me to pretty much where we are today, around 6 months ago i found a hell load of rot in the car which was very well hidden, and it meant it was just not viable to repair mainly because I had just sunk every hard earned penny I had into a deposit on my lovey new house, so she had to go, I disassembled her and sold every item I had acquired over the 4 years and had to let go.
I was very sad however not as sad as my girlfriend who I never thought had bonded that much with her! I said I'd never buy another, onwards and upwards I'd say, I still had my cooper s which I decided to modify so I'd have some form of enjoyment in life but it just didn't hit the spot, it was crap!
So the inevitable happened......
I bought a mk1 mx5
Of Facebook
For cash
Without seeing it
Not running
And on a flatbed π
She turned up at 12.30pm on a dark wet Friday night, from first glance she looked in good nick but it was late so rolled her in the garage not under her own steam and got some shut eye.
And that leads us to today
Opened the garage and realised I'd bought a shed, well not exactly a 'shed' but not far off! From a distance looks great but get up close and she's vile, Rattle can matte black paint peeling all over, a hardtop that has been painted by children and an engine bay which, well I'll let the pictures do the talking π
The pictures make it look better than it is
The price though was fair and I know these cars nearly inside out so shouldn't be too hard (I think) π
First up, battery out, new one in and started straight up, rough, mis firing slightly and crap idle, oil coming from exhaust on startup, diff is buggered and it's got those dreaded TA TECHNIXXXXX π‘π‘
Decided to just get that 3 coloured engine bay sorted so pulled the plugs and ht leads to find them covered in oil! I mean covered! Hoping it's the cam cover gasket but after inspection it seems fine, if it is valve seals then I'll have to replace those once she's up and running with the turbo on, anyway that's it, pictures from end of play this afternoon
So yeah that's it, tried to keep it short so sorry if it dragged out but for 4 years worth I think I did okay haha, turbo manifold and downpipe is in order so have 4 weeks to get it ready to be fitted with my turbo I have sat here and beg the lady of the house for more car part allowance again π
Next update tomorrow
Thanks
Ollie
