Car for sale: 2005 Mazda MX5 1.8 SVT Sport
Mileage: 55k
Condition Interior 9/10
Condition Exterior 9/10
Condition Mechanical 9/10 F/S/H
Before I go into detail of each section of the car, I just wanted to give potential buyers some brief history on the car. I purchased the car on 13/03/16 from a trader, the owner before me was a reverend and owned the car for 8 years, I would be the third owner of the car if I send the log book off and since purchase the car has had some maintenance work carried out by myself and it has been used as my daily. Only reason for sale is I will be relocating for work shortly and the MX wouldn’t be suitable for commuting. MOT expires 28/09/16 TAX is 01/03/17. I have tried to be as honest and open with my descriptions as possible, though there may be the odd little thing I miss.
Okay let’s start with the interior, the seats are near perfect, no bolster wear like you would normally find on other MXs. They also have the added bonus of being heated! The carpet is in good condition with no rips or damage, with almost new genuine Mazda floor mats. Interior plastics are good with a couple of minor marks, the worst of which are on the glove box. The car is fitted with the standard Mazda CD player and the optional Mazda wind deflector with speakers. The boot carpet and trim are in great condition too, you will also find the original spare, jack and tool kit. When I first got the car I stripped out the boot completely and cleaned it all out. The interior in general is a very nice place to sit and to enjoy driving, everything works as it should.
Moving on now to the condition of the exterior, being a 11 year old car it’s not perfect, however the bodywork is far above average. There are 3-4 pin dents in total and one bad scratch which I have shown in the photo. The scratch happened when the Mrs was washing the car for me and must have got a piece of grit on the sponge. The car is virtually rust free with the driver’s side sill just starting to bubble. The frame rails (common problem) are solid and show hardly any rust. The roof is perfect, no rips or damage and is water tight, even in torrential rain! It also has the heated glass rear window which comes in very handy. When I first got the car I removed all the interior and boot trim to check for leaks and I cleaned the drains out to make sure they weren’t blocked. The MX is a very rare colour, Radiant Ebony which looks fantastic in the sun! One more point to note is the windscreen has 3-4 chips in it, so will probably need replacing come MOT time. The wheels look a little tatty and could benefit from refurbishment.
Finally, onto the mechanical side of things, now this is the best part of the car. Being a late 1.8 SVT Sport it is fitted with the more powerful VVT engine producing around 140BHP. It also has a 6 speed manual gearbox, LSD and factory Bilstein suspension. Hands down this is the best drivers car I have ever driven! The MX has a full service history with 2 services at Colindale Mazda in London at 5k and 10k respectively, it then has 8 services at the previous owner’s local garage Belle Vue Motors in Southend on Sea at 17k,22k,27k,31k,36k,41k,44k,41k and then one final major service (details below) by myself at 53k using parts from MX5parts.co.uk. I spent a long time searching for a good MX5 and wasted a lot of time going up and down the country looking at so called mint examples, I have tried to be as honest as possible so you know exactly what to expect when purchasing the car.
When I purchased the car I carried out the following work:
• Replacement rear light seals (common for leaking)
• EBC Ultimax front and rear brake pads
• Engine oil and filter (Mobil 1 & Mazda filter)
• Gearbox and diff oil (Mobil 1)
• Genuine Mazda cam cover gasket (was weeping)
• NGK spark plugs
• IL Motorsports fuel filter
• IL Motorsports shifter boot kit (common problem)
• Genuine Mazda nylon gear stick bush (gearbox is now fantastic and tight)
• Cleared all the drains
• Removed the interior and boot trim to clean and check for leaks
• Alternator and power steering belts (not fitted, slight squeak)
So to conclude:
• Later 1.8 VVT engine
• 6 speed manual gearbox
• Factory LSD
• Factory Bilstein suspension
• Electric mirrors
• Electric windows
• Heated leather interior
• Factory fitted Sigma Alarm with two remotes
• F/S/H with all the books and documents in the Mazda leather wallet
• 2 Keys
• Water tight roof with heated glass window
• Rare Radiant Ebony colour
• 2 previous owners
As you can see the MX has had quite a cherished and easy life, I have probably missed off loads more bits! If you come to view the car I will quite happily show you round and I will be genuinely sad to see it go.
