Ages ago I bought a Mitsubishi Pajero intercooler and pipework having been told it was OK for my M45 supercharger installation. Now in the process of fitting it and doing a bit of research I'm wondering if its the right size. General consensus seems to be the I/c needs to be optimum size - too small and it will constrict the charge and too big and pressure will drop. I'm aiming for 225FWP having also sourced larger injectors and an induction kit. So the questions are:- 1) Is the Pajero i/c suitable? Body size is 350mm wide x 195 high x 60 deep. Also the inlet/outlet pipes are 47mm diam v. 55mm on the throttle body outlet. 2) Is there a link whereby I can calculate optimum size without needing a Degree in Maths? 3) If not suitable can you recommend me a suitably sized I/c? TIA, Pewe

This was an oft discussed topic when I had the modded ST There are so many variables - overall size is not an indicator of internal dimensions or how easy air will flow through Consensus is that restrictions in the pipe work are the biggest issue - how does the hot & cold side diameters compare to the charger outlet? Of course the better the IC the more cooling you will get - the Pajero one may not be ideal but is better than nowt I'm sure

My IC is larger (oo er) than the Pajero's, the last one was smaller, I offset the increase in size with considerably shorter pipework. Seemed to work. I'd say the size is fine. Just keep the pipework short!
