Started twatting my frame rails with a big hammer, and squeezing with gclamps to make my frame rails fit.
It really doesn't feel right doing it as it is mashing them up a bit.

Thanks, the pictures are hiding all manner of sins though. Bodywork schmodywork. I'll be throwing a supercharger at her soon so that should make up for all the dodgy bodges Leigh

Had previously noted how warm the whole air intake system including AFM got during tackdays. Needed a good cold air feed and a heatshield for the tubular manifold (though it is thermal wrapped already). Considered a few things and how hard getting something effective would be from the front bumper aperture or scooping from the floor. Eventually decided to save a bit of weight by removing the headlight and motor (and a fair amount of wiring loom) and routing straight off the sidelight vent. The ducting is some 3" alu flexi hose off ebay, easy to form but stiff enough to hold it's own form. Was withing a few mm's of exactly the right size for the back of the vent and just the right length. Now I wasn't sure how effective this would be but was at Blyton yesterday for the MOT trackday and the front of the air filter after long runs was actually cold i.e. there was enough flow that it cooled the plastic so was pretty pleased with that. Similairly the alu heatshield made from a free offcut of alu, not exactly a work of art but did a decent job and polished the bottom to reflect heat. The difference to temp on the AFM since last time at Cadwell was enormous. All in all very pleased and cost next to nothing and was a net weight saving. No more pop up lights but on a track hack they weren't needed anyway

Ingenious and looks pretty smart!
How are you supporting the AFM?

turned on my engine for teh first time since putting a manual gearbox in. at first, no worky. was a loose connection on the neutral switch. then when it started it sounded horrible with a blow in the manifold.
however, tested the box up on stands, and putting it into 1st makes the wheels go spinny!!

Ingenious and looks pretty smart! How are you supporting the AFM? Cheers. Couple of strips of plated steel mounted off redundant air box mounting bolts. They pick up on threaded holes on the alu bit of the AFM. The strips have a 90deg bend / twist in them. It's completely solid much to my surprise but was pretty pleased how it worked out.
