I was just about to start a post all about me but then I realised that it would be cool to have a thread where we could ask about good driving roads/routes in locations that we don't usually go (or even locations that we do usually go but haven't really explored for whatever reason) Soooooooo, to kick things off, are there any decent routes in the Peak District? I know it's all pretty good round there but are there any stand-out good ones? I'm aware of the Cat and Fiddle in the north but that's speed-camera-city now so any recommendations gratefully received!

I'm guessing that no-one wants to name their favourite roads for fear of them becoming infested with idiots and/or our friends in blue... lol

There's plenty out in the Peak District. I and a friend usually do a loop (we do it late at night - 10pm onwards) that takes a couple of hours leading us out the top of Sheffield, over to the Cat and fiddle, from Macclesfield back towards Castleton, then back to Sheffield. Some cracking roads on that route.

I have an idea... Why don't I create a shared Google Map (or something similar), so users can mark their favourite driving roads. That way, anyone can add points of interest etc, anywhere in the country (or the world, muhahahaha!).

I'm guessing that no-one wants to name their favourite roads for fear of them becoming infested with idiots and/or our friends in blue... lol It is probably more the issue of where to start in the peak! Which bit of the the peak are you going to be near? Buxton is quite a good starting point, so is Bakewell. Most of the roads aren't really drivers roads until the traffic has subsided. After dusk a lot of them are plenty of fun even under the speed limit. After midnight is the best time, although it is also the time you are most likely to get a Bandit 1200 through your windscreen if the roads are dry. Stop off at the stardisc in Wirksworth if the sky is clear. Insomnia Coffee in Calver has my recommendation if you end up near there around 8:30 in the morning. A road known as 13 bends has gained some infamy over the years after numerous fatal bike crashes. There are actually no longer 13 bends but it is a fun road though and is on one of my regular detours. The road is also known as the A619 between Baslow and Bakewell. Watch out for bikes on the wrong side of the road though SRSLY. Another on is Via Gellia road between Cromford and Grangemill. There are tons of other roads in that vicinity in pretty much every direction. Stay safe.

I definitely feel like we should make a 5s run as like a camping trip or something. I would be up for organising something, if enough people are interested in doing it. basically a 5s gumball rally sort of thing

I live in Rural Dorset and there are loads of great driving roads, - up zig zag and over the top to Cranborne - lovely You have to be aware particularly this time of year, bloody farmers everywhere and tractors are bloody huge now!! (Also since the Olympics every middle age man thinks he's Jason Kenny so bloody cyclists everywhere!) They seem to be transporting massive loads of straw everywhere - no fun if you've got your roof down!!
