After an ill fated foray into the kit car world with the predecessor to the GBS chassis and a rover v8 I'm now seriously considering stripping my '5 down to throw into the newer "Mazda Zero" chassis.
Just wondered if anyone has attempted this? Slightly nervous about my poor spannering skillz and potential of losing a car and gaining a longer-than-ever-intended project.

Don't know anything about them but I reckon that looks pretty good and fun to do

That looks like a whole lotta fun. I can see me doing something like that in a few years.

Oooh ... soon I will have a garage ... and I already have a deathwish. Maybe a kit car is the way forward ... then sideways when the wheels fall off .. then a hedge ... then a ditch... then a coffin

Noo, the £13k is still a kit, it just has everything you need. Their cheapest built car is £20k, but none of their built options are mx5 based, defeating the whole object for me as a) already have the donor and b) all I know about cars I know about said donor.

Maybe a kit car is the way forward ... then sideways when the wheels fall off .. then a hedge ... then a ditch... then a coffin I would assume my badly built v8 kit was about as bad as they could get in terms of death chariots.... and it is sublime to drive. You couldn't go wrong. Even with an open diff it went sideways beautifully, controllably, confidently, made you look like a total driving god. Not on a tight autotest though, there it was hopeless. Seriously I think these 7 style cars are a case of once you've driven one nothing else compares. If there is a remote chance I can actually build one I'm going for it.

I'd love to do this, there is also the mnr vortx mazda which I was looking at, of course I bought the wrong mazda ad all these kits assume mk1/mk2.....doh! But being a kit car it is probably solvable.

Why wouldn't you do it yourself - it's the obvious evolution when you finally get fed up of the sills and arch repairs - £2.5k plus your power train and a few bits and away you go!!

Your £2.5K is the starter kit, you still need £10K of other bits to finish it.
If you want cheap kit car thrills based on an MX5 you go the Exocet route.

I am totally confused by the prices on this, the starter kit seemed to contain a good chunk of what you need, certainly the bits of the car that I would expect to be the expensive ones (the frame for example). Whats in the 10k bundle you talk of? I cant look now, because the website is dead.

Same as me - confused If you had a complete donor car and the starter kit what else is required - you might need to modify the existing loom for ancillaries but I cant see what else you need that isnt coming off the donor car (assuming its just the donor car bodywork thats no good)? bit of fettling maybe - but thats the fun bit!!

I too assumed that the £2.5k kit was what you need to convert the donor to the car. I thought the £10k kit was a complete kit, no donor required? If £10k is just a kit and you still need a donor its way outside similar kit car prices! I could buy a professionally built alternative for close to that.
