After 47 years of car ownership, there's far too many to list, so here's one of my favourites, owned in the '90s. Volvo 123GT 1968, bought standard (B18 1800cc, twin SUs, 4-speed box with Laycock overdrive) and then modded by me with Wagner & Gunther lowering springs, IPD arbs front and rear, Spax adjustable shocks, polybushed front wishbones, Simons 4-branch manifold and exhaust, ported head, engine fully balanced, 6j x 15 wheels, uprated brakes. Very strong car, bullet proof, fast and comfortable, great handling. Sold it to start a new studio business.

Here's another one, bought from my Brother in law in the '80s at 170k miles as a beater for use when I wasn't on tour. Capri mk2 2litre - I abused this car so badly, never serviced it, yet it served me well for a couple of years, including a non-stop thrash down to the south of France and back. When terminal rust took it off the road, I gave it to a mate who drove it to destruction.....

OK just one more. No, not a car. A truck. A proper lorry in fact. I bought this on the never-never in the early '80s and ran it on European rock'n'roll tours. It's a Magirus Deutz, with a non-turbo air-cooled 14 litre V8, a 13-speed Fuller crash gearbox and Rockwell rear axle. Much fun to drive, less fun to live in for 6 months at a time.

My first car was a banana yellow mini with an internal roll cage. My second car was an immaculate Fiat X1/9 that my brother took without my consent and wrote off.

Had an abarth 500 before the mx5.. Sandys will remember Was a good little car but started to suffer from mechanical issues so strangely sold it at around 30 months old and bought a 17 year old mx5 that has been more reliable although I do less miles now. This picture is from 2011 when a few of us from the abarth forum took a trip to Le Mans for the 24hour race weekend. I admit I do miss it sometimes.

Here's another one. After spending most of my 50's wafting around in various W124 Mercedes, I decided I wanted a slightly sharper drive. So, I bought this one-owner, low miles Impreza Turbo 2000. I added a Prodrive Performance Pack, Prodrive inverted Bilstein struts, Godspeed brakes, and a set of 16" Rays TE37s. It was very fast, very nimble, and an absolute blast to drive fast cross country on A and B roads. I realise it has a certain image problem, but it's many years since I lived in social housing, and I've never cared what other people may think about what I drive anyway I sold it last year, and replaced it with a Forester 2.5 XT with Prodrive pack and 280bhp/320 lbft with some Whiteline suspension bits:

After I briefly and unexpectedly turned my first car (and first Mini) upside down then back the right way up in a ditch I was left with basically no money and no choice of new car. So my dad had this tatty yellow Mini lying around in a field that I could have for cheap. I wasnt happy, (I mean, look at the colour!) but beggars cant be choosers... Getting this Mini coincided with my starting to go out to Mini shows with a bunch of people that became some of my best and longest held friends and a few of the great years. We went up and down the country getting drunk in fields and spending our hangovers on camping chairs at Mini shows. I only had this car for about a year but he holds a lot of great memories. He took some hits in my ownership and the rust really took hold so I sold him for a Mini that was a much more sensible proposition. Still have that one to this day but Ill have another custard yellow mini someday ... Ps. I had REAL trouble embedding an image ... why dont onedrive embeds work anymore?
