Thought this might be an interesting thread. Many of us have owned cars other than an MX5 so here's a place to post a couple of pics and tell us all about it. One car per post is the only rule, pics would be a bonus but some of us oldies were driving before digital cameras were invented. I've owned 32 cars but I'll start with this one: 1991 Mini Cooper with rather a lot of mods. Purchased in 2001 when I was 23. Built over a couple of years to be a sprint and hill climb car but I sadly never got to compete in it due to meeting Lizzie and selling it to pay the deposit on our flat. This car is probably one of the most important cars I ever bought. Firstly it was the car that got me really into modifying cars, I learnt how to spanner on this car. Secondly the Mini scene is epic and met some life longs friends through it, including MrsHorney. If I'd never bought this car I'd never have met my wife or some of my best friends. It also gave me my first taste of forums and when the one were on was shut down me and couple of mates set up out own. It's still going today but is very quite sadly. Minifinity.com if anyone is interested. The car itself had loads of mods including a carbon fibre removable front end, heavily modified engine, race suspension, updated brakes etc etc. It was a proper weapon. I sold it to my mate Ryan who still has it to this day. It was even featured in Mini Magazine, my one and only feature car. Over to you lot!

I've only had one car that I no longer own, and that was written off by my brother. I've never sold a car Caterham 7 1.6 K series Throttle body modified, air filter relocated Oil/air separator Tiny battery/battery cutoff switch Oil pressure changed to mechanical Oil/water temperature gauge mod Redundant engine mount removed (1kg!) 5 speed Type 9 Quaife ATB Mintex M1144 in standard brakes 260mm Momo DRE shift lights Carbon light blocks and indicator pods GRP Tillett seats and 4 point harnesses Custom roll over bar and petty strut to account for my lankiness 14" minilite wheels Roof/door/screen/heater delete Brooklands screens/racing mirrors Probably some other things... Building the car at a friend's garage, I had hair then! On the Top Gear track coming up to Gambon. Handling day at Dunsfold (Top Gear) waiting for the slalom area with lots of 7 friends. Charity dyno day saw 106.5hp at the hubs. How to get a second set of wheels to the track: RAC Magazine did a feature.

I still own this, does it still count? Bought it when I was 21, spent 18 years restoring it, moved house three weeks ago and it moved into the garage last Saturday. It's the first time in 23 years I've actually had it living at home with me. It had a bare metal respray, with aluminium bonnet, boot lid and fuel tank instead of steel. New interior, uprated engine with ported and polished head, 2" carbs, high lift cam and competition side exhaust, overdrive fitted to the four-speed 'box, disc brakes, fast road steering rack, uprated dampers, competition wire wheels and a pile of other things I've probably forgotten. The tyres are shagged though, Vredestein make some nice tyres with old style tread paterns so at some point soon I'll have four of those fitted and over the winter the wheels will go off to be reconditioned. I'd say it was just north of 1000kg and has about 170bhp and more torque. It's a 1958 car but a fair bit faster than later standard 3000s. I read an interview with Bob Hall who said that he'd grown up with his father's Healey and eventually was able to drive it. It's that car that influenced the MX-5, not the Elan. They're remarkably similar, although the steering and gearbox in the Healey aren't quite up to the standard of the Mazda.

Fiat 600 (farm runabout in South Africa) Citi Golf (MK1/MK2 Hybrid in South Africa) Honda Civic Honda Accord Nissan 200SX S13 (Where I learned to spanner a little - my first turbo) Toyota Celica (Totally standard. Lovely it was.) Jaguar X-type (my first diesel) (now my mum's) (I'd like another in estate form.. they are very easy to get on with and very reliable) Tailgate McNoIndicate Z3 M Coupe (massively over-rated, looked nice however. I can't recommend them) MK2.5 Euphonic Slag (recently sold) Yup, it did look that good.

Lancia Thema 8 valve Turbo. Same engine as an Integrale and a turbo the size of a dustbin. Made for exciting driving as it was front wheel drive and the turbo really lit up at 3500 revs, so hitting the loud pedal just after the apex made it quite interesting partic. in the wet!! Chassis was supple i.e the rear doors would creak as you backed out of the drive onto the road camber. IIRC it weighed 3cwt (152kg for you metric people) less than the equivalent SAAB 9000. It went like sh*t off a shovel having a 30' turbo overboost when you floored it. Gave lots of so called sports-cars a real fright and cruised five up plus luggage at c. 138mph (in Germany of course). Mind you it did rust despite Lancia claiming they had sorted their rust problems. Within three months of buying it new (those were the days) it developed a tennis ball sized rust spot in the middle of one of the rear passenger doors. Needless to say Lancia were very keen to sort that one out. Sold it three years later with 150k on the clock for next to nothing but the engine and turbo were still sound. Cheers, Pewe.
