What takes 4x100 wheels, is an estate, and has fulltime 4wd... Well.. I found something that covers this uniquely silly requirement of mine. it's kind of like corolla with a weird badge. All the spares are corolla! 1996 JDM import. 7afe engine. Not toooo rusty. 187K KMs On the sprint farts.. should be easy to spot in the snow! I'm thinking of trying to import a lower mileage version but this one will be good for the foreseeable. The harlot will be on sale shortly waifu is already complaining.

I made something for it this weekend.. I'm planning to drive it to central and eastern europe in the new year, so when the temp drops this will keep the engine temps where they should be .. This might be a dumb question... but is it not the case that the thermostat is supposed to keep the engine within the correct operating temperature range, closing the 'stat when it gets too cold, so that the water doesn't cool too much in the rad?
Or is it the case that it does that and the rad is at risk of freezing/expansion because it is so ridiculously cold??!

Aye, I'll explain my circuitous logic. The ideal is probably to run 5w or 0w in sub-zero conditions and 10w for the rest of the year (or 15w if you live in a 35c oven country) but where we live, who has time to chance oils twice or... why waste what is really good oil that would be fine if you just reduced the cooling ? The radiator blocker's effect would be a quicker warmup and normal engine temps during sub-zero exterior temps. (Obviously In summer it might lead to overheating especially when the engine was under load) I run some top quality 5w40 (Millers CFS, overkill for a car like this, I know, but I tend to buy it in bulk when it is cheaper so put it in anyway).. I've considered running a thinner oil as above but it might only be needed for a few weeks of central/eastern european winter weather, when I come to think about it.. this thing I bodged is my way to avoid any need to do an oil change for something that might only matter for a week of -20c car starts.
