Is that the same engine as in the Gen 6 Celica ST? Yup, same engine. Was also in the corolla and the avensis.. I'm sure that I read somewhere they have a certain something that needs looking out for engine-wise, but I can't remember what it is! lol Mind you, I wonder if the ST205 GT4 Celica engine would fit...

Had to get a new rear exhaust section put in.
Price was fantastic.. 44 quid including a tip, covering materials and labour!
Been interesting listening to the exhaust quieten over the last day of driving.

The prices are Ukrainian prices.

I got the chance to drive on the road in one of the mx5s while the missus drove the carib. Wow, it's got some road presence. I didn't think I'd say this 6 months into ownership but I'm really really happy with her - I mean, the paint needs help, the bumpers are all a bit scraped, etc, but she's a joy to drive.

I got the chance to sit inside a 2018 Mercedes last Friday and holy sheeit, the Carib has a far easier interior to squeeze into. It's plain, sure, but it isn't a fussy lux-hole.

The love affair continues. Did an oil service a month back, but I could see a bit of weeping around the cam cover gasket down onto the head, and I thought, ah time for a new gasket and a great chance to check if the Cambelt really was done 20K KMs ago / a few years ago. Cambelt looks nearly new, so evidently, that's fine. the previous Cam cover gasket was definitely not as well done as it could have been - little strings of silicone came off around the areas where it had been leaking, evidently they didn't clean the surfaces as well as they could when they did the cambelt. .. so I Cleaned the hell out of the the head and cam cover mating surfaces with a plastic scraper and then cleaned the surfaces again with isopropyl-soaked paper towels until no more dirt came off. Also did the plug hole gaskets at the same time. I put a liberal amount of silicone gasket around the cam arches and other potential leak points. It's all back on and well, only time will tell, it's torqued down and the gap is equal on all edges, I've degreased the sides of the head where there was an oil sheen. in "Alex has OCD News" I've also started replacing all the missing poppet fixings. and I've got some wheels that need a refurb that I want on the car for the rest of summer duties.. They're Weds TC05 style designs ... Thinking Rally White or ... oooer, Gold ? I like the idea of Gold rims on a two-tone blue and silver car. a much more curbed version of these:

Those rims look nice and light They look like they're from a (EK9??) Civic? Could could refurb them in high gloss silver but paint all the centre, from the spokes inward, in dark blue?

They're reps of the Integra 4x114.3"SPEC96" wheels... called "SW96" but made in both 4x100 and 4x114.3.. 6.4KG, Made in Chairman Mao's Big Rock Candy Mountain. I'd rather keep them all one shade

Got some tints done. The Spec96 thing will have to wait until winter. Found some superlegerras cheap and put some good summer tyres on. Aircon works now too And revs show! Got a replacement tach and it does the trick. http://instagram.com/p/B0yxcoLnoE-

So I've done 16K KMs on this so far. The next oil service is due shortly, I'll get it done this weekend. It passed MOT a few days ago. Really chuffed with the experience owning this car, so far. It has been a joy.

It has been a joy. Nice! And little seems to have gone wrong, which is good news and testimony to excellent build quality I'm thinking one of these would be good for 'her indoors' if she wants something more practical if/when small people come along... It's a shame they are so rare over here!

the one downer to the car is the fuel economy.. 4wd and 80s engine tech and a roof top box all contribute to getting maybe 12L/100KM or 24MPG I look at it this way, I could have spent that money on a more expensive car I'd have hated. This one was cheap and I love it. Orange Corners! If you're really in need of a little-people carrier Mazda or Toyota's newer and (almost exclusively FWD) cars are rocking economical engines and make more sense. But they won't look like this, will they ? http://instagram.com/p/B3y6oRvHQFh
