For the airbox/plenum thing, looks like you either need to get a bent manifold so the trumpets point more horizontally, or can you stick a sausage filter over it instead of the bulbous air box? Or the nuclear option, cut a hole in the bonnet... I've got some of those headlights, does that help? but seriously, the manifold was changed from horizontal to angled for clearance purposes - think the length of the trumpets are part / most of the problem (& that the airbox was designed for a Lotus 7 / Wrestfield type car so no clearance issues there ) I don't mind the 'Scorched-earth' method but there might be class regs / legalities to contend with so realisically the airbox might be shelved, again anyway, the 42mm Jenvy tb's & cf trumpets are for sale as I've ordered 45mm items Rich.

If the ITB's came out horizontally from the head would it clear the engine bay and the bonnet?
That airbox is huge!

Come on Rich. If you put that in the MX …. How you gonna get in? rollcage? I admit that I might not be the most flexible OR smallest so it will be a challenge, maybe an incentive to eat less pies? no chance Rich.

That airbox is huge! mighty5s.com/post/54691/threadabout that...... also less clearance around the brake & clutch master-cylinders as to airbox size, think there was some maths & calculations involved by clever people, and then it was made bigger for psychological advantage (+10hp?) Rich.

Ah yes! trade off between trumpet length and chamber girth, to try get something to fit then I guess Or a pedal box with reservoirs to get the extra clearance? Sure you'll come up with/collect something!

Or a pedal box with reservoirs to get the extra clearance? sorta built that a year or two ago Sure you'll come up with/collect something! as we speak... the new tb's are ~25mm longer also Rich.

anyway, diff pigshead & phosphoric acid update.... Yeuch Orrible & stinks.... looks better than lastnight? the paint has been loosened and can see where I've scraped with a screwdriver to check through the scum... rinsed in cold water, used a paintbrush to remove the gack... suprisingly this pigshead isn't as rusted as some, have seen a few without raised letters and even the bolting counterbores rounded-off! the ppf mount area. looks to have a crack, probably c/o a mallet when splitting from the aluminium carrier case.... anyway, will degrease & re-wash in the PartswasherDishwasher. Rich.

after rinse and dried. theres still a lot of dirt to remove... unfortunately I'd missed a few bits of flakey-rust when chipping the cavities on the ppf mount so thats visable. after a quick run through the dishpartswasher in for a second rinse now then a session with smooth hammerite and a brush tomorrow other busness, I've removed the calipers from the silver car & these are the flexi-hoses the Earls aluminium fittings are corroded and ready for the bin, luckily I'm making new lines for the car but it's something worth considering as a safety measure. Rich.

and... out of the partswasher. rust staining as it was a hot wash, easily removed with an oily rag but would need degreasing before painting. bearing caps fitted, can see the difference in metals as the pigshead is cast iron and the caps are cast steel. I'm thinking of replacig the bearing cap bolts, allen bolts are cheap and high-tensile (usually higher grade than hex-head bolts), size is 'M10 x 1.25mm pitch, 50mm long if anyone was wondering? Rich.

On the topic of air fir box clearance to brake master cylinders, I had a similar problem on my XE Westfield, solved it by making an offset backplate for the sausage filter, moved the whole thing forwards, the trumpet’s were just off centre in the filter. Like this

Like this the airbox backplate is recessed so not much wiggle-room in any direction horizontal tb's sit close to m/cylinders not that the brake cylinders are an issue with the straight tract (port angle) manifold. - although not that easy to see here.... I can use the backplate and a conventional foam filter but that won't address the noise problem associated with straight tb's subject of Westfields, a mate used to have a 140hp crossflow Cateringvan & I regularly threatened to convert it to XE power probably not be much quicker though Rich.

When even the tin of Hammerite in the Zed shed has a coating of rust it's pleasing to see the latest trend of shiny bits beginning to appear!
