You will need rods & bearings on a 250whp Mk1 1.6 that’s done 160000km. I will go down that route since I'm doing a rebuild.

Finally got a start on the car, had to make sure my garage doesn't leak. Starting on the interior and seems have quite a bit to do, have to put the new tan carpet and remove the rust and paint all the insides.

Small update still working out what I want the interior to look like, currently learning how to quilt xD. Having a big machine helps but dear Jesus it's hard.

Actually your efforts have given me the idea of using some nice quilted leather/vinyl on my other project (1962 Isetta). What did you use to help you get started? I have the right shape/cut interior panels in cardboard (literally) but they would look great covered in something shiny and soft. Also would want to do the seat cover, which is currently a tartan cloth my Mum made for it 30 years ago...

My advice is to get the right tools, if you plan to do your own quilting is worth getting a decent industrial sewing machine .I bought mine for 100 quid from a nice lady in Halstead. A lot of people have them for sale. It's worth buying the smallest pulley for the motor unless it has a servo motor and not clutch. Buy a few special upholstery pens. Buy spray contact adhesive. Buy fire retardant faux leather For quilting don't cheap out and buy 10mm scrim foam will save you a ton of time. A long ruler and measuring tape. Sturdy nylon tread. Good scissors and sharp cutting tools. To quilt: Measure the piece you want to quilt cut it and do the same for the scrim foam, contact adhesive on both sides and voila. Find out where the center of the piece is and draw a big + in the middle. Now to save you alot of time see bellow. This is how I create perfect diamonds. Let me know if you need further help. .

Nice work, its a really skilled trade doing this kind of thing and an excerise in patience for sure so well done, you'll only get better the more you get stuck in! A friend of mine is a professional auto trimmer who works for himself now if you get stuck with anything really tricky let me know. He's absolutely stacked at the moment though, does a lot of work on high end cars nowadays (ie. retrimming Porsche seats back to factory fresh etc). I have no doubt he could make up something like the Nakamae stuff.

Wow thats brave ! I scrapped an R-Ltd that was in loads better condition than that. And bought an imported rust free RS shell which had all the bits from the R-Ltd built into it. The car in my Avatar is another RS that I found cheap on a garage forecourt ( also rust free and never had any welding done to it ) so I had to buy it while the other car was being built up
Best of luck with your project.
