Yeah in an ideal work i would have a set of bbs wheels for road with some chunky tyres and keep my badly sprayed white ones for track work with some nankang ar 1s fitted.. but bank says nooooo

Canoeing nankang ns ultra sports have been ace so far but after many track and its a dailys they wont Canoeing wear down!! I need them to wear down so i can put ad08s on but they just Canoeing wont! Lol

I have run the following tyres on my mx5's;
Bridgestone RE002 195 50 15 - Probably the best 1a listed tyre and around £35/£37 per tyre. Dry 6/10 Wet 5/10 Wear 8/10
Yokohama Prada spec2 195 50 15 - Average summer tyre, many size options. Dry 5/10 Wet 3/10 Wear 8/10
Toyo Proxies R1R 195 50 15 - Currently running these, very noticeable improved overall grip, improved turn in and at the time cost me £250 delivered for a set. Unfortunately have been discontinued. Dry 8/10 Wet 8/10 Wear 6/10.
My advice for a daily mild modified mx5 (non forced induction engines) is to run a 1a listed or equivalent, as i found it less enjoyable having plenty of grip and reducing the chances tail happy action. However since i now have a turbo'd NB the R1R tyres can easily loose traction thanks to the extra power gains so i doubt i'll go down to more generic road tyre.

Currently got AD08R's on but I really don't like them. The Rainsport 3 are a really good tyre that I used last year on the road & for sprints+hillclimbs- very impressed with them for the price.

How did you find the Rainsports in the dry i really like them in the wet but they seem to scrub up a bit in the dry, grips still good though, I have a spare set of wheels with pilot sports on for the dry

For sprints/hillclimbs they were fine as they were grippy straight away & only needed to work hard for 3 minutes maximum. Castle Combe sprint in the old Mk1 on Rainsports- If I was to be pounding around a dry track all day in the summer, I'm not that sure they would hold up. I'd get some R888Rs to do that (that's what I run on my TVR & they're pretty good). The AD08R's that are on the Mk2.5 are ok for grip but I'm finding that I struggle for traction & braking where I know the R888Rs wouldn't...

The courtesy car I currently have from The MX5 Restorer has Briway BFH57 tyres. Ooohh - they squeal just like the best tyres in Starsky & Hutch! Just need to find some cardboard boxes to drive through (and if you have no idea what I am talking about, you are far too young)

Tyres. Both the below are on standard daisy's in 185/55/14 flavour.
Toyo Cf2s on my car. prarrie canoe in the wet just like the 'other' mx5 toyo everyone loves. Fab in the dry though however I think if you drove many miles they would wear away faster than a whore gobbles sausage.
Her car has Rainexperts and they are fantastic. They inspire lots of confidence in the wet abs I think you could really push the car if you wanted to.

Nice lap I did some track time at Combe last year, in the morning it was wet and the Rainsports were absolutely brilliant - no one could touch me! Different story in the dry though, they were ok but lost my adavantage. are you doing the Combe sprint next month?
