Yesterday - set out for a flying visit to Skuzzle RR day. Pottered through Reading's Sat morning traffic, hit the Swallowfield by-pass (aka A33), hit the loud pedal and the fricking mis-fire is still there. Came home, put the cover on, watched the rugby - wish I hadn't bothered

Rodders pads fitted to fronts. Surprised how crap the old pads were, given how much material was left.

Rodders pads fitted to fronts. Surprised how crap the old pads were, given how much material was left. It's all about the compound! The lack of 'mu/friction vs heat' graphs was the only thing that put me off rodders pads.

It's all about the compound! The lack of 'mu/friction vs heat' graphs was the only thing that put me off rodders pads. Lack of info didn't bother me too much. I'll not be using them on track, just for (daily!) spirited road driving. They came pretty well recommended by several here, and elsewhere, who do use them for trackdays. The Roddisons pads feel much more progressive. After break-in, decent initial grab and seem to carry on. As for the old pads. They were EuroCrapParts specials, fitted 2/3 days before an MOT about 2 years ago, when I realised my current pads probably wouldn't pass test.

They were EuroCrapParts specials, fitted 2/3 days before an MOT about 2 years ago, when I realised my current pads probably wouldn't pass test. I was looking specifically for a 'high friction from stone cold' pad, as the ones that came on the car just didn't work at all without heat - I was genuinely worried I was going to run someone over one day due to lack of 'bite' and friction when cold!! - and I also like graphs lol, so the feedback from the Rodders pad users was strong but I wanted empirical data! I went with Hawk HP+ in the end - immense 'bite' and stopping power, even when it's below zero outside, which is very confidence inspiring They might actually be a bit too much in lower grip conditions, but I'd rather have the choice to ease off the pedal if required, rather than standing on the pedal and praying it will stop lol They are eating my front discs like the Cookie Monster, though but they are super cheap, so it's not an issue! I will have to drive someone's car with the Rodders pads fitted before I next need new pads

Took the front calipers apart to find one of the dust seals had gone and the piston was getting rusty and pitted, not good! I thought the car pulled a little left under light braking on my way home from Combe - lucky it had got no worse than that on track!

Got a couple insurance quotes for the 5, £250.00 (main car, 5000 miles, social & commuting) from Footman James. Got to love classic car insurance Shame about the road tax on an import.

I don't have an mx5 anymore but the other half did take hers for an MOT.
Surprisingly it passed with only 3 advisories, two of which were tyre related and an oil leak which is the cam cover. Not bad for a 26 year old car which cost a touch over a grand is still used every day and does about 12k miles a year.
I am quite happy as it is the second year running I have not had to do anything brake related which is refreshing.

Bought a used race cat on eBay and fitted it- Very pleased - no louder but deffo a bit freer at the top of the rev range Also fitted the front hose temp sensor I bought on here months ago works well And then lowered the ride height - i raised it for an auto solo but it’s better a bit lower (but not as low as it was cos every speed bump was a trial!!) And finally a superb top down drive via the hand car wash cos I couldn’t be rear canoed! It’s amazing how a bit of sunshine motivates😀

I finally put my rear BC coilovers back together. I got them from myothercarsa2cv when he broke his supercharged NA. I’m pretty happy with how they came out. The springs were pretty crusty and the shocks covered in under seal. Just the fronts to do now!!! (Oh and I’ve got to fit them)
