So today I realised, as per a post in another thread, that I forgot to order / didn't realise I needed the collets / dowels that locate and secure the head gasket and head itself... ... which means that after much procrastination and consultation of the wisdom of the forum (thank you zed!), I've only managed to clean the beginnings of rust off the block face (again...) from where it's having to sit outside, finish cleaning the piston cut-outs of the last of their burnt-on crap, add plasticine to the now-clean piston cut-outs to check interference when it's back together, and re-fit the HLAs to the head... At which point it was dark Things I now know and which I didn't know this morning include the fact that oil apparently seeps through plastic sandwich bags and that one should apply suncream to one's lower back when one is wearing a t-shirt that rides up while leaning over a car in 30+ degree heat for even what seems only a short length of time.

This weekend I went out and purchased a MK1 for the old' man. He's real keen on his old yank tanks - But he loved the drive of a 5 so much he went and bought a tidy mk1 for himself.
Been tidying a few bits here and there, parcel shelf carpet, seats, steering wheel, fog light etc etc.
I'll chalk his transfer to a 5 up as a victory haha

Had a go at DIY paintless dent removal. Bought some of the plastic pads from eBay and bodged an adapter for my (far too large) slide hammer. Not very good, but got some of the dent out. Need to take it to a proper body shop to get rid of the crease I think. Couldn't get normal hot-glue to stick well enough to get a decent pull on the panel.

Can you get inside the wing to help ease it out?

Can you get inside the wing to help ease it out? Not easily, without drilling into the inner skin. That area is structural. Try super glue Do one! Issue was, the hot glue wasn't strong enough. I assume the professional PDR people use something intended for the job. All I did was clean the local area, then used isopropanol to remove any wax residue. I've got quite a few bodywork issues now, plus I want to sort the underside this summer. Before it's too late! Looks like I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and take it to a proper bodyshop. A mate recommended a place nr. Milton Keynes, but I can't for the life of me remember the name.

finished putting my MX5 back on it's wheels, as in got the dual exhaust aligned, quick wash (it was filthy after sitting for a few months outside on stands), raised the rear CRD's to avoid scrapping speed bumps (hills)

Drove home from nights with an occasional thud from rear...thinking ball joint, cracked spring, arb link....had a quick butchers exhaust hitting subframe brace...exhaust hanger split...easy peasy fix.
