Baby oil?... next you'll be giving it a shiatsu. No massage required, it just works, you can always dry the excess on your hands on a friend…😜 You learn something new every day!

I've found a replacement NA cylinder head which should be here in the next couple of days, and I've got the day off on Friday to fit it, so I spent yesterday evening taking off the damaged head. Fingers crossed the replacement is in good shape and lines up nicely...

I've been fixing up my Legacy wagon to sell so haven't used all my garage time on the Mazda, but I have cleaned up and fitted the replacement NA head, along with the coolant reroute. I didn't have a hose with the reroute kit and it took a couple of weeks for the one I ordered from Skidnation to arrive, so with the head already on the car I spent last night swearing and stretching and contorting myself to get the hose fitted on the outlet at the back of the head. Should finish getting that done over the weekend, then will fill up the coolant and it should be ready to try starting. Will do an oil change first too in case there are bits of swarf from the old head floating about - it wasn't as badly damaged as the previous one but would rather be safe than sorry.
Once it's moving under its own steam again I'll get it picked up to have the body damage repaired.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. No POM for you if you are selling the Wagon and the MX is out of action. Or will you steal your Fathers MG for it.
Have a good Christmas.
( My wife is forcing me further down Cornwall to keep me out of the garage on Christmas day Bah Humbug )

( My wife is forcing me further down Cornwall to keep me out of the garage on Christmas day Bah Humbug ) I wasn't planning to do the Pom this year, not only because I'm unsure if the Mazda will be back in action, but because I'm doing a 12 Car the night before, and because the entry fee has gone up to over £300!

I got the car running again last night Took the CAS off and put it back on again, and cleaned up some of the ground wires, and it fired up. Blasted out all the oil, coolant and other stuff that must have got in while it was in various states of disrepair, and adjusted the timing with the CAS. So it's good to send off to have the damage repaired, and hopefully will be properly back on the road in a few weeks.

The car got collected yesterday, keeping fingers crossed about the repair work.
There was loads of oil smoke on startup again, which is a bit annoying, I know I haven't run it very far/long/hot yet but it has me a bit worried. I replaced the valve stem oil seals on the previous head, but then didn't run it very long before it had whatever issue caused it to shear the cam pulley bolts, so don't know if it was really fixed. I have since fitted a replacement head, and it's quite possible the oil seals need doing on that as well, but if they don't then there's another issue letting oil into the cylinders instead. Which is more likely?
I do have an NB 1.6 engine I could swap in, but that's another unknown, and I'd need to faff about with the differences between NA and NB as well, so would rather not go there if I don't have to.

Nobody's done anything with their car in 2 months?
Mine is still languishing at the bodyshop, they have pulled the chassis leg straight but there are a lot of compound curves and joins in the rear quarter so they asked me to get a corner cut off a donor car. I found a couple of candidates in a few days via the Facebook groups, one near Banbury and one in Ashford, which is just down the road from the bodyshop in Maidstone. After a month of faffing about where the donor works in London during the week and the bodyshop man doesn't work weekends, the guy eventually changed his mind after a 'long chat' with his wife, and now wants to sell the car whole so I can't chop its bottom off.
Luckily the chap near Banbury was still happy to chop his, so I went up there on Saturday and collected it. Should be just what I need, so hopefully will get the car back in a few weeks. I have entered the Goodwood sprint on 20 April so really hope it comes back before then! Will then need MOT and tax as well.

Got two cars to get through tests today - Turbo Eunos won't be trouble, but I need to do some prep work on the MR2 - I haven't homologated the coilovers but it doesn't look lowered, but I should probably put the socks on them.

well, the turbo eunos failed on the brake light (3rd brakelight was still set to pulse mode, racecore style) and the left handbrake doesn't appear to be doing anything at all now. Bugger.

Dropped off the donor back end, bumper bar and £5 bumper to the bodyshop, they're going to tackle the welding next week, hoorah!

Got my car back! They dropped it off while I was away, just rolled it off the trailer onto the drive. My Mum was here to look after the kids, and since the battery wasn't connected, and the steering wheel was off, she couldn't drive it or move it anywhere, so they left it where it was plonked. Anyway, when I got back I tucked it away back in the garage. Seems to be a bit of a water leak into the boot but haven't got to the bottom of that yet. It needs a new battery clamp and the numberplate panel fixed or replaced, then a new MOT and it should be good to go.

I have now Taxed the Monster for six months. I have just got it out of the garage for the first time since last year. I gave it a fluid check and look over before letting the tyres down to driving pressure from the 50 PSI storage pressure. I took it for a gentle shake down to check brakes steering etc. Being naughty I decide not to break the new 50 MPH speed limit on a dual carriageway but chose to drive along at the speed limit in second gear I then kept to a 30 MPH limit in first gear. Nice gentle 6000 RPM ITB and Straight through exhaust noise !!! Out for a geriatric MX5OC run tommorow ending up in Bude.
The guy at work that was going to mill a head for me to measure the chambers and valve clearances for my new engine has gone and retired ! Cheeky bugger is younger than me. I will have to find another willing victim or use the vacant mill if I can get away with it.

Did about 400 boring motorway miles in it, mostly in the rain with the roof down (obvs ) Worried about the smoke in the cabin... [/hint towards blatant needy thread already started]

Hi Folks, I did nothing to my car as I am in Norfolk Virginia. I have seen a couple of Mk1s about one of which had a lift kit on it plus a couple of Mk3s I am trying to work out if I need to buy an more bits for my silly engine while I am working over here. A set of Supertech double valve springs could be on the shopping list if I can get then delivered to the Hotel. I will need to buy a bigger suitcase then as I came over with a small one. Could be a trip to Walmart needed !!! At least working away from home should help the Toy Fund.
Cheers Dickie
