you map the car at the higher pressure (solenoid on and configured) and just drop the boost (turn off the solenoid) for normal running.

I'd imagine 90% of mx5 run this set up.

It's a bit worrying really. I'm guessing here. But is this a certain yellow car that was turbo'd and set up by a very reputable tuning company?

To be fair that is probably what they are doing, it's just the way my mate described it I assumed it was getting dual maps. How easy is it to install the switch and boost solenoid?

Yeah could be some Chinese whispers taking place. But slightly concerning about the overboost issue and the 3 hours to change a turbo without any answers as to what failed on the old one. There are guides online how to wire them up. But doesn't take any longer than an hour to fit and you'll need a bit of 2 core cable to wire it between the old purge valve and into the cabin where your switch will be. I think skuzzle fits them free if you get your car mapped there and buy the solenoid from him.

To me sounds like they are a bit annoyed about having to replace the turbo so to try and make some of the money back they are massively overcharging on labour. I had my sills done there last month at a massive cost, I had a very strange conversation on the phone which made me feel like something fishy was going on and they were over charging on the labour.
The whole turbo thing could be that my mate doesn't really know much about cars so he could just be miss understanding or not following what they're saying. Either way it's not nice as a customer as it just puts doubts in your mind!

Yeah I know what you're saying. It does put doubt in your mind. Especially when you hear other stories on forums and Facebook etc. Makes me kinda glad I fitted mine myself and learned how to do it along the way.
