Am I the only person that doesnt really understand these?
Sure its an impressive engineering feat to fit that engine in, keep the car light and make an OEM like setup but it just doesnt seem to fit the MX5 ethos/aura for me ...

One could argue that supercharging / turbocharging any MX5 is against the original ethos?? [/devil's advocate]

I think there is a difference between squeezing more power out of an original engine ... and swapping something completely different in. That said I kept my MX5 normally aspirated I am not saying this LS3 thing isnt fun or awesome in its way ... but still

Having had a big tuned up 3.2 V6 in my 147 it was much more preferable than a tuned up 4 pot, great torque and linearity, I think if they've managed to keep the weight balance for a little weight penalty then it's all win for the owner.
How much more fun would a 5 be with a high revving 6 or 8 in there, tons more.
The v6 hasn't hurt the Exige at all. If it works for Lotus in a proper sports car it's fine in Mazda little roadster.

I cant really put it into words but I feel a massive American V8 is the wrong engine for a small nippy Japanese car
To use the Lotus comparison ... this is the MX5 equivalent of the Hennesy Venom in my mind ... yes its quick ... but I feel its missed the point
Also why isnt it trying to eat them alive? I would feel that much torque and power would cause it to be constantly killing people a la the Cobra they mentioned in the chat

I agree it's not the best choice of engine but it's probably chosen as those things are cheaper in crate than getting a 2.5 example.
You can get one over here for less than a supercharger on an NC so imagine how much cheaper over there!

I think my issue is that Americans just cant see past "put a big lazy V8 in it" as a solution to every car need. Also ... the way they say Miata ... Those things
