Another pressie arrived in the post this morning 😃 It’s a rear subframe brace. Along with the front one Vlad at Jass made me, I’m going to have a stiff new year 😃

Been on a bit of a shopping spree as I won’t be buying much in the new year... took advantage of 20% off on eBay to buy an intercooler and got in touch with a guy in Oz about reflashing my ecu. He had no exchange ecus in stock but found one at a breaker so I’ve bought that as well, meaning no time pressure to swap over and the ability to revert to stock at any time (very important for resale!). 2018 is going to be fast 😃

If anyone’s reading this you might recall I got some Forge goodies 😃 Here they are: The BOV is a custom job with an R35 base, a valve from something else, 28mm recirc take off and a vacuum line at a jaunty angle just for me (although it is a adjustable, it’s only by rotating the top part). The other gadget is an Intake Pressure Compensation Valve (IPCV). It basically switches the boost reference depending on whether the throttle is open (turbo boost pressure, keeps BOV shut) or shut (inlet mani vacuum, keeps BOV open as usual). This means you can run high boost levels without running a stiffer spring in the BOV, handy for Stageas which run a healthy 14psi as standard. I have now fitted them: Plumbing it all in was entertaining. Took me aaaages to figure out where to put the IPCV too! I reverted to the stock boost controller as well, decided my MBC was a bit too crude and I should wait until I get a proper EBC (really fancy a Garage 7 unit). More to come...

This arrived the other day... Now to find some time to fit it!

And now it’s fitted! How small is the OE one?!

That’s a massive difference. You should feel that.
My Alpina has a much bigger IC fitted as std compared to the regular (Tailgate McNoIndicate)** fitment. It makes a significant contribution to being able to run higher boost.
** that’s really funny- swear filter puts this in!

Haha! Admins hard at work Yep, this is all in preparation for fitting a remapped ECU that will soon be swimming here from Oz. A few more PSI might well be on the cards

So I left the interior light on the other day and drained the battery, which almost scuppered my plans for a tip run. Fortunately Mighty5s’ finest were very nearby (stripping my shell!) so came to the rescue with jump leads and a big car. A big thank you to atlex and @captaincorders for being my saviours. It also meant I could go to B&Q and park many miles from the white van men. More plans are afoot with feelers being put out for some silicone hoses not currently on the market, and also an upgraded wastegate (also not yet available for this car). So many things have to be made from scratch, it’s fun but expensive when you’re on a tight budget and can’t DIY these things... Fortunately, a Walbro 255 is straight drop in fit, as are R35 550cc injectors... 😉

This arrived in the post yesterday... It’s technically a turbo timer harness but with permanent and switched live take offs it is in my mind a neat way to get power to a boost controller (and other accessories) without butchering any wiring. Which is what a previous owner has done. So the lower dash will come off and I’ll start tidying prarrie canoe up, and make up little harnesses to plug in to this. Why people don’t use these more often I have no idea. It also means it’s completely reversible without making a dogs dinner of it. Also booked in for a long overdue service and a wheel bearing at Abbey Motorsport. Not many places know Nissans as well as they do. Pray for my bank balance though, this is well in to scope creep category!

You can fix previous owner's wiring bodges for years and still never get them all. Good luck!

Today the car went to Abbey Motorsport for a full inspection and a service. There were a few things I wanted them to tackle, and there are a few things they have found already. Eek. This is only going one way for the credit card! Anyway, I’ll update when I hear more... in the meantime, here’s some Abbey Motorsport porn. I chose Abbey Motorsport because not only are they Nissan specialists, JDM imports in particular, so have heard of the Stagea, they have one: I then took a look around the yard where they keep breakers, projects, long term builds and race cars. Hi there 22B...: Here’s a peak under the hood of one of their R32 race cars. Engine bay goals or what: And a customer’s S12 having a VQ35DE put in with space for a supercharger, in case 300bhp isn’t enough: I came back down to earth with a bump as the journey home on the train was about the biggest ballache in the history of train travel 😂 Now I’m lying awake because I have a banging headache and can’t sleep, and a certain guy called Dale from Oz messaged me a progress shot of a high flow intake he’s building for me: Ooh yeah. Now I know someone could have made that up here, but then they’d need my car and extra time to squeeze it all in... it’s tight in the Stagea’s engine bay. Dale knows what he’s doing so it’ll work out cheaper in the end. Exciting 😃

The car is back, having been fully serviced, two wheel bearings replaced, and a rear diff mount too. It drives like a new car! The only downside is that the rattling control arm is even more noticeable now, and by the looks of it not possible to get in the UK. Typical. Anyway, they managed to put my 350Z silicone hoses on, in blue to match the cooler joiners: Hopefully I’ll be able to get a few more engine bay smarten up kind of things to make it look more ‘tuner’ 😃

Fitted isofix today. What a ballache. An hours work to tighten up four screws... First, get isofix mounts from an R35. This in itself is a challenge. Then, crawl in the boot. Flip the back seats down and pull out the flappy wotsit that covers the gap. If you’re strong enough... damn those clips are strong. Locate the mounting holes. The inside ones are easy, let’s start there. They are nice and accessible and you can get a socket in no worries. 30 seconds later, job done. Right, off to the outside. The holes are covered in tape so pull that off in tiny little pieces. Say goodbye to your nails. Then you have to trim the carpet, as it’s in the way. If you put the knife one way, it might go through the seat. Other way and it might go through your hand. I went for hand. Use your geisha hands to get the screws in and a ratchet spanner to tighten. You won’t get anything else in there. Haven’t got a ratchet spanner? Lol. Check out your handiwork from the other side. Swear when you see that the mounts are at different heights. Spend a good half an hour trying to figure out how you got it wrong, then conclude that the holes are just in the wrong place. Perhaps you can bend them. Replace the trim you removed and put everything back in its place. Wrestle the car seat in and put up with the wonkiness. Think about how to bend something that should not bend...
