So today was meant to be my car day. A whole day of messing about with cars. But then little bro bought a flat, and I wanted to visit and I had a couple of other bits to do so that went out the window. But then Alexey suggested a midnight mods session and I couldn’t resist... so at 10pm last night I loaded up the Stagea with the tools and headed to the lock up to start work on installing lowering springs on Alexey’s new E39. (There’s usually an AE86 Corolla in here but that got chucked out so we had light and shelter!) I won’t go in to detail but suffice to say there’s a reason there aren’t many lowered E39s about! I reckon shop labour would have been more than the cost of the car on this, we finished at 8am this morning having worked through the night. We lost a lot of time from not having a ramp and not having enough space to get the whole car on stands. Doing one corner at a time is slow. But get it done we did. And I think it looks rather well for it. Really glad to have tackled this, it’s not an easy job and to be able to drive it away in the morning was an achievement in my books. While you were all sleeping I was upskilling 😃 Hopefully the next midnight mods session will focus on the Stagea... lots to do!

Car wash today 😃 with a guest appearance from the lowered E39. Fiat needs to go in to the garage as it has developed a great fault whereby it runs perfectly until it decides not to, and just cuts out and dies, and refuses to restart however much you crank it 🤔 I was prepared with my diagnostics tool though, and plugged it in for a quick read. Errors were spark plug anti fouling activated, extended start up times (which would account for the anti fouling), and MAP sensor intermittent fault (which might account for the extended start up times). Now it’s unclear whether it’s the sensor that’s faulty or something is causing it to take odd readings, but that’s something for someone else to figure out!

So the Fiat is fixed. It was prarrie canoe spark plugs. Got a full service, new ‘stat, brakes and tyres done at the same time. Like new again 😃
So back to the Stagea. With Saad getting his tasty 850R, I now have a renewed pressure to actually get this car going a bit quicker. Fingers crossed it’ll only get warmer now, and the clocks are going forward soon which is great for the evening tinkerer. I have quite the to-do - for now, it’s thermal gasket and under body bracing. If I’m feeling brave the dump pipe too. I’m talking to SiliconeHoses.com about making up some hoses you can’t buy, and my ECU remap is in the works. My lower intake should be on a boat somewhere between Oz and here, and at some point I’ll get around to sending my upper intake to DaveFab to work their magic. Then it’s turbo upgrade time and fit it all!
It’s too much in all honesty, I need to throw some serious wedge at it! Hope it’s worth it...

I’ve been investigating a stuttering wiper problem and it looks like it might be worn ball joint cups. I’ve ordered new wiper blades to start with (AR18U and AR21U from wiperblades.co.uk - what a website!) to see if that helps but they do look ok so if it doesn’t then it’s time to find wiper linkage bits. Fun times 😊
Creaky front left suspension has be worried that bushes will be needed... fortunately these are the same as 350Zs so not difficult to source (although the arms are slightly different on account of it being AWD.
Going to have a look at a few bits tomorrow night before my trip to Cadwell for the Time Attack test day with Thunderwood Racing and Giz Motorsport. It is the ultimate support vehicle!

It’s been a long time since any updates. I’m sorry. Not a lot has happened really, just bought loads of cool stuff 😂 I had a trip to America planned, so naturally ordered a whole bunch of stuff to cart back with me. Including: Hot Rod Mag hoody, R35 AFM pigtail, front lower rear control arms (yep really that’s what they’re called!), wiper linkages and a shift kit!!! My Aunt was delighted to receive so many parcels...! While I twiddled my thumbs awaiting that trip, I decided that my engine bay needed a little something extra. With a bit of a clean, it would look ok, but there was what I thought might be a nice touch. I searched, but I could not find. I got some spare OE parts and sent them to a guy for a quote to make me spangly versions. The quote was not insignificant. But it was also not significantly more to buy a batch of 20... so I took the plunge and became a parts supplier: They arrived just before my trip to the US so I had to wait to test fit... I had a good time 😊 On my return I set to stripping back some parts to get these bad boys in: You’ve probably guessed what the new parts are by now so I’ll cut to the chase. Here are the first ever and only available silicone BOV recirc hoses 😃😃😃 Such colour coding! I now have a massive pile of hoses to sell, and it’s a bit slow, but hopefully they’ll all go soon enough. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I’m perusing eBay. I see a bargain. I check finances. I make an offer... IT’S ACCEPTED! These can’t arrive soon enough: I’m quite excited but like the MX5 I seem to be piling up more parts than I’m fitting... oh ECU and intake is on the way too 🙄 I’m hoping for a decent bonus this year so I can invest in a new turbo... come on bonus! This car could be awesome if I found the time to work on it!

Not a lot to say... but a new turbo is on the way. Intake arrived, also bought some bonnet stays. Still not found any time (or inclination) to work on the car though 😐
