and yesterday i finally plucked up the courage to start with the engine. Going very slowly so i don;t massively Canoe anything up (hopefully...) But this is the first time I have done anything like this really - so plenty of scope. Plastiguaged the crank and big ends. A bit big, but good enough. Now I realised that i am missing the gaskets, so have to wait until tomorrow for them... why doesn't a full gasket set come with oil pump gaskets? ffs. Some more pictures:

Well hello there! It seems most people that I follow changed forums long before me. Happy days! Sorry... Thought you were already here. All the cool people are. In France on holiday at the moment, then have one week until we move. Have got rid of daughter on the Monday, and plan to get the rest of the engine assembled, and hopefully in to the cat. But let's see... No doubt I will be missing some stupid little gasket.

If tou havent got the oil pan on properly yet, or have another gasket, get that return welded. Now is the easy time to do it. The rest of the car gets proper, so it seems fitting to have a welded return

I am being curved to bit do everything as I really want it. It will come off one day to do that...

Come off is an engine out job. Still, tapped and jb weld has worket on many cars indefinitely. So its not wrong, only less right.
I totally understand the need to work after a deadline.

I don't think I have mentioned in here that we are moving to Switzerland. Next week. I really wanted to finish this if before going. I can't take it with me as they don't do modified in Switzerland, but I had hoped I could pop back and do the odd track day. But build is not going fast enough. I have been working my rear canoe of trying to get this thing running. Finally got it rolling... Got engine ready to put in. I managed to get it all in, but made life difficult for myself by refusing to loosen the engine mount to get it in. Not sure why. Went in immediately when I did loosen it. Ho hum. Starting to get everything else in place as well I have had to pick up all the panels from the painter where I was storing them as well, as we leave on Tuesday. Has taken a lot of time, but it does mean I could throw on the (very dusty) rear bumper. I think it will look good So have a day trip to Switzerland tomorrow, busy on Saturday, I have part of Sunday to work on it, then the packers arrive o move us. So I pretty much have half a day to get it running. BNo going to happen is it?
