It's welded (very badly, so badly i ground most of it down...) and painted. Shove it on tomorrow, and see hw it sounds. stay tuned for how deafening it is.

OK, it's on and working fine. Not too noisey at all.
My bigger issue is that the oil temp just climbed and climbed. It hit 115 and i turned the engine off. Oil pressure gauge was right at max for the first few mins, then slowly dropped as it warmed up. I don;t trust the absolute figures, but it was heading in the right direction.
That's with moving it out of the garage, going forward and backwards 10 feet then sitting still for a few minutes.
When i ran it up for ~15/20 mins previoulsy, i didn't see any issues with temp.
The oil cooler felt mildly warm to the touch, so i think the thermostat on the sandwich plate had opened. I guess that means oil is circulating...
Checked the level and it was on full.
I'm a bit stuck as to what to look at. Any ideas?

i've just ordered a new sender and gauge to double check it.

Very aware I am a grinder (not that sort) and not a welder. Yes, it is connected. There may be some pin holes, but for now i don't care. I have to add another hanger at some point, so i'll check for dirty black leak marks on my fresh white paint then. More worried about the oil temp now... It is getting tuned on Monday i thought i had a couple more weeks.

unless you have a calibrated gauge ($$$'s) I wouldn't worry about readings - they're just a guide! you could use the dashboard engine coolant gauge & wiring to compare - swap sensor feeds temporarly underbonnet & you can see whats happening ish Rich.

Agreed not overly concerned about absolute numbers... But... It would stay below that before , so it's the different behaviour I am more worried about. It would just about get to 110 after a good 20min beating on the track. The gradual increase in temp suggests it's not a sender/gauge/grounding issue. But have new ones arriving tomorrow just to check. Apparently low coolant can also cause it. that is fine, but I will run it again later and check coolant is coming up to temp. Could a problem with cooling (i.e. pump not pumping or thermostat not opening) cause high oil temps?

If you have an aftermarket ECU I think you can configure an oil temp gauge in Tunerstudio

Not circulating the water would cause high water and oil temps. Sounds quite strange.

i found some funny things in my oil... I was putting in my new oil temp sensor (went for a drain plug verions for speed), and dropped a bit of oil to take a look at it at the same time. THere are a few black stains on the bottom of the pan: And a few lumps: but... they all competely disintegrate when i try to pick them up: I'm just off to buy some new oil, and i will drop the rest to have a proper look. What are the collective thoughs? Am i fu cked?

If the car has barely moved or run in years (barely been warmed up) I'd check the coolant system properly - check the thermostat still works, etc. boiled water technique etc.
