interesting. I was reliably informed that recirc was not much quieter on these cars.... and now I'm tempted to get mine to recirc.

i wouldn't say my recirc is quiet, but venting to atmosphere was really Canoeing loud.
cheeky video to show you the difference:
(The deal was that I turned around at the roundabout and took my daughter to the park and I went on a quick blast first - hence "that was the roundabout")

So I swapped over to a depowered steering rack, and it was REALLY heavy and I was worried I had done the wrong thing. I took it to get it aligned, and I was still worried. But I went to Snetterton yesterday, and it was brilliant. Still really heavy on tight hairpins, but other than that it was much much better. And it has given me a bit of an upper body workout as well. Boring videos to follow at some point.

Moved gauges to crash pad in prep for nexus installation. I even took the time to wire up the illumination, so I might be able to see the oil temp in the dark now, which is nice.

Time for the Nexus 7 install. This is the start of the chopping: Then some masking tape on the screen with a line drawn in to show where I want it to be. I just need to trim the edges and fix it all in place. Then fill in the big gap on the bottom (right on this picture) with some aluminium, then smooth all over and drill some holes. Will be done in a jiffy...

Made a bit of progress tonight actually. Got the cut out bit in the post above to fit, and then bonded it with Q-bond (people tell me that you can acheive the same resutl with baking powder and super glue). It is a powder and a super glue type stuff that fixes in seconds and is rock hard. INteresting stuff. Then filled in a few more bits and smoothed it off: Then I cut out a bit of aluminium, and bent the ends over, and magically it was exactly the right size. I thought I was goignt o have to do loads of them to get the length right. and then JB welded it in When this is dry, I will use a bit of filler and then paint it in the same way i did before to get the standard interior plastic texture. Then drill some holes for the switches that came out of the main panel. I have added a new fuse box next to the existing one under the bonnet and run a decent size cable into the car, run that through a relay that will be switched from the ignition. I did this as just taking a random supply from under the dash can be using some pretty weedy wiring, and not sure what i will be powering off this yet. I think the supply has somethings like 2x2amp and 2x1amp (not sure exactly) so could end up drawing quite a bit. So this is the 12v-5v step down, mounted neatly in a Tupperware box... It was either that or try to make something. I don't want anything to easily touch the heat sink on it as I don't know how hot it will get. I had to come in from paying after this when my wife got home from work. So I should just have a little bit of wiring to do to get it functioning, and then a fair bit getting the bezel looking decent. All in all, quite pleased with progress tonight. Next step is getting the oil temp gauge working again. Pretty sure the sender is dead as the connections looked a bit floppy when I last looked at it. I want to do a filter relocation as well really, but that is quite expensive. So not sure. And I have a leak in my new turbo oil drain, which is really annoying. Pretty sure it is the flange where it connects to the turbo. I think i didn't spend enough time making sure it was nice and flat after it was welded. My fault for being lazy.

Really interested to see how you're going about this, thanks for sharing. I got my Nexus7 install tested in the car yesterday, it all worked as expected. Just figuring out the mounting now

Really interested to see how you're going about this, thanks for sharing. I got my Nexus7 install tested in the car yesterday, it all worked as expected. Just figuring out the mounting now Ah, yes I saw that. Are you powering all that from the 12v supply into the iso stereo harness? If so, so you think it is up to the job? I am not great with electronics, but it looks like there is a lot there. So you may either run the risk of not having enough juice or overloading a single supply wire? There will be people on here who know more than I do about it...

Yeah, all from the stereo harness. My stereo had a 10amp fuse in, so I figure the 12v feed should be fine for the amplifier (3amp), USB power (2.1amp) and the dash cam (1 - 2amp).
A bit of googling says the radio runs off the room fuse, which is 10amp.
I've wired each item into a separate 3amp fuse, so if something does go it should be easy to figure out.

Got it all up and running: Rather pleased with myself at the moment. I then started to put the holes in to the bottom panel. But I managed to break a bit. Easily fixable, but it was because I was trying to do a job with the wrong tool. I will never learn. And now I have just noticed that the holes are not in the cocking middle. I have no idea how, but I have managed to offset them by about 4mm. That is Canoeing annoying.

couple of updates. Decided that I was being too fussy about the positions of the holes. Nobody will ever look at it straight on anyway... I have put some filler on, smoothed out out and used some high build primer. I have also assisted it with my secret paint to get the interior plastic look... So then I had to sort out my oil temp sender issue. I think that the sandwich plate had just turned slightly and was shorting the signal out. I also had to change the oil filter, and the last one was on so tight that I could get it off at all. So I took the inlet manifold off. Not too difficult a job actually. I got as far as putting the last nut back on the manifold. And dropped it. Could I find it? Could I Canoe. Very annoying. Off it comes again. Still couldn't find it. Turns out it was caught in the top of the engine mount. Absolute bastard to get out as well. So, just need to put manifold back on tomorrow. Then sort out turbo oil drain leak. Then finish centre console. Then rewrite headlights. Going to Caldwell on 16th June, so pretty much tidying things up for that. I have been getting through a set of front pads per track day so far, which seems quite a lot, so going to mess about with brakes next I think.

Fair play - looks great.
Now lets get those revs up to 8k on a cross country blast.

Fixed the oil drain leak, but manned to Canoe one of the copper washers on the oil feed, so had oil pissing out all over a hot turbo. Which was nice.

OK, things got very busy at work at just the wrong time for me. My frame rails arrived, and a set of spacers from freakyparts: Haven't had time to look at rails yet, but have made some progress on the brakes. For those not familiar, it means I can use G60 Corrado discs (280mm) on the from and the std ports discs on the back (276mm). All on, apart from spigot rings missing, which Stewart is going to get in the post tomorrow, so i can fit them on Tuesday. Then Bed them in on Wednesday after work, and pack the car up for Cadwell Park on Thursday. And have some XP8 pads to go on as well. Doesn't give me as much time as I would like to make sure everything is OK, but that is tough I was planning to have a tow bar on the 5, and use my new little trailer (not sure if I have mentioned that so far. Will post something about it when I use it) but have one of those little erde things. Going to use it to carry wheels and fuel, as I can;t get everything I want into the 5. Anyway... can;t have the tow bar, so have hired a trailer to put on the back of the audi to tow the mazda. Never towed anything before, so this should be a fun drive. Just towing the trailer back on it's own was a tiring experience. And working out a way to get home to avoid all the parked cars and other obstacles kept me busy on the way home.
