visited two places today (Pirtek and a smaller independent place) and neither could make hoses up for me. So i have had to order some, which is a PITA.

I am sure I have asked this question before, but I can't find the discussion anywhere... What can I plug and play replace my TD04 with?
Reasons: - It is old, and I think could do with a rebuild anyway (everything else on the car is new/rebuilt) - The compressor housing needs repairing - I want MORE POWA (say it in a craig from Dyno Torque accent)

1) check it for play. 2) there are lots of housings available. 3) that answer would be best served by a subaru impreza forum, afaict a lot of them recommend just porting the td04-13t for max response with good power, but you can go 'larger' td04. they're just suit the 1.6 less and less..
But what's holding you back really is the manifold, ditch it...
in your case I'd go for an FM or Kraken T25 flange type manifold and some garret or borgwarner turbo - I'd recommend the BW EFR series. Amazing spool and power.
if you replaced your rods you can get the boost well over 12PSI then, and then reach the limit or your clutch or gearbox or diff lol.

I'll put it another way.
NO turbo you put on your current manifold will net you more oomfph, because the current turbo is literally the best option for a reactive 1.6L stock internals setup. the Mani is the weak link.
For a built engine you can get a much higher boost turbo (slower spool than td04-13t but ultimately more power 5k+ rpm) and still outperform your current setup (even at 4K rpm) because it's the manifold currently holding you back.

has anybody actually had any contact wth Kraken? I've tried to spek to them a couple of times about delivery lead times, but got nothing in response...
5th gear has started to crunch when selecting as well. is that Canoeed too?

G19 evo manifold? I’m really pleased with mine & is designed for the TD04. When I need more power, I can change the 13T to a 19T compressor & hopefully still have the quick spool up.

Now, larger does not necessarily mean slower spool. I can spool my gtx with dry revving and it's spooled to 1,3 bar @4k on the dyno and 3,5k on the street (4th).
But it does mean more expensive.
Go for larger compressor only? May net some high egt's, but the td04's are the same turbine for a lot of compressors, are they not? 15t should put you a bit higher. A friend runs a 19t and he's got more peak power than me, although less area under the curve.

Back for running with me injectors today.
Just done the longest drive in it so far, and found some liquid in the footwells.
Can only be coolant from the heater matrix. Really not very interested in digging around in there, but I guess that's my next job when I get home

Coolant, or urine from the squealing pig??? That is an interesting thought. I'll send my dog in when I get home to see if he finds any pigs.

where exactly did you find the liquid, and what does it look like soaked into a white paper towel ?
the heater matrix hoses clamps are actually behind a plastic cover to the left of the brake pedal on a RHD car, it's a pig to get to. but that's the first place to check for leaks.
