Good stuff, I have been told I have to do less motorsports this year I went a bit OTT last year with the 5 kicking rear canoe in many sprints, solos and hills most weekends, so not sure what I'll get permission for yet but will no doubt see you at one or two events

I'm hoping to do at least 4 of these this year, only managed the Llandow sprint in 2016.

Yup - just did my entry! Do you know why the entry isn't open for the rd1 Autosolo yet?

Yes this happened last year sprint before solo, but this year I think they might have lost the venue at short notice.

I just received the championship regulations this evening, and I'm horrified to find out that my car is no longer eligible for entry. Having competed in previous years against much faster cars with throttle bodies, aftermarket ecus etc, I have just spent a huge amount of time and a not inconsiderable amount of money bringing my car up to scratch with a megasquirt, Blink head and cams etc in order to enter all the events this year and be competitive, only to find out at the last minute that this year the car must be pretty much bog standard. So I won't be able to enter any mx5 challenge events this year. I'm bitterly disappointed

Ah, yes there was a change in regs to align with other Mx5 classes, I was regulated out also basically it was deemed that the class was to encourage people new to the sport who had not yet succumbed to the arms race that is sprinting and give them a fair chance of being able to compete and win a pot, something that in the South West with the class spread of 1.8 to 2.6 can be difficult in a 1.84 MX5. So mk3/mk4s out as....well they are superior of course and extensively modified cars are out. Probably didn't help that myself and the likes of Dave Newman were 10-20s quicker than some at events last year, there was a lot of grumbling from other competitors in MX5 classes, in someways I am glad I am out of it as it wasn't very comfortable situation as it isn't just the car and some people don't want to hear that its their driving and even when some of the NA/NB guys bettered other Mk3s even BBR200s, mk3s were apparently still too quick because my lesser specced car was miles ahead LOL Anyway with your mods your car should be competitive in stock classes which is where you will find me and Dave and no doubt other MX5 guys that no longer comply. A few of us are doing the HSA, perhaps that would fit you? The MX5 class there allows mods and Mk3s actually but this year I am out of that too as I want to try track rubber.

Thanks for that Sandy. I'll have a think. I reckon me being off the pace by so much the last two years is 40% due lack of power and 60% due to lack of driving skills I've spent the last tree months addressing the former, and hope to improve on the latter with a day's worth of one-to-one tuition at Bedford next week.

The MX5 challenge regs are more aligned to the Gurston class which makes it better for people like me who want to do both.

Rhys in the HSA MX5 class also has a Blink special by the way and Deans is along similar spec so if you guys synced up it could be an interesting battle through the year with regard to similar mahinery , they are both on facebook.

Thanks Sandy, I just had a look at this year's class A2.1 in the HSA championship, seems ideal as I would be up against similarly spec' cars. It's difficult to gauge one's driving ability on a non-level playing field, as in the Vincenzo challenge the last couple of years. I certainly didn't grumble about it though, as I'm well aware that I lack skill and confidence. Nevertheless, it was good fun, and I learned a lot just trying to improve my times compared to my previous ones.

I am in the club. Pretty bog standard car. Class c rubber. Just a exhaust and a air filter and a roll bar. That will get me into some of the events where competition license and safety regs dont apply?
