Final prep before Spring Action Day!
Dodgy manifold welded, hardtop secured, oil topped up, tyre pressures checked, rocker gasket replaced and car cleaned.
See you all Saturday!

So I went to Tesco last night and picked up a tasty dinner of BBQ ribs and chips with a side of breaded mushrooms, what a delight! Came out to find out that some absolute c*nt had pinched the centre caps off of my wheels! I'm not really too fussed but it's more that some toerag has been mooching about my car and took it upon themselves to have part of it for themselves. C*nts. On the plus side however, I've paid a deposit on a standalone ECU! It's an MSPNP2 so not the ME221 which I was initially going for but it's boiled down to the fact that the ME was nearly £600 and I've picked up the MS for half of that. It should still be an excellent piece of kit. Can't wait!

Someone snapped me on track at Castle Combe's Spring Action Day. Not the best photos but I didn't hardly take any and neither did any of the group I was with. I'll get a load of photos when it's all painted and turbo'd and way more presentable.

Been a bit quiet on the project front, life getting in the way has lead to the car taking a back seat for a couple of weeks and since I'm pretty sure I may have some form of ADD, I get distracted really easily and found myself cruising the classifieds for something pre-built and hot to trot. However, after a few conversations with friends and the like, I have (for now) been convinced to persevere! XDR Motors is a local new start up company specialising in your usual servicing etc but also and most importantly, drift/track preparation. It's owner has decided to use a few friends and their cars to start a "team" to help with promoting the company, attend shows and events all under the XDR Motors banner, wearing the livery and generally just show of his work. I've been lucky enough to be asked to be one of the cars! This means that the build MUST go ahead! So with the help of XDR's owner Phil, the turbo conversion is very much underway again! Custom downpipe and FMIC piping will fabbed up over the next couple of weeks, manifold and turbo bolting on, various bits of hardware will be sorted out including the oil feed/return. An LSD will be finding it's way in place of the current welded diff, refurbished front and rear subframes, (I'm thinking gold powdercoat for these?) with a full compliment of polybushes. Also since he is now a TRS distributor, a nice set of green TRS harnesses will be replacing the faux Takata and maybe a couple of tow straps for good measure. My ECU should be with me soon, then it's a case of getting to Skuzzle and having the whole thing mapped! Must. Stay. Motivated. Anyways, there's too much writing in this thread and not enough pictures, so here's some random ones I took the other day. God I need it painted!

Still love this car bro keep your head in the game and plow through the moments of doubt Thanks a lot man! I'm trying my best! I gave it a good clean this weekend, even though it's a minor thing, it actually helped. Nothing worse than a sorry looking car!

So just when I was getting back into the car again, bad news! Was down XDR Motors last night as the car had developed a new rattle over the weekend, I didn't think much of it but it has been diagnosed as potential bottom end, oil is coming out of the front of the engine, not at an alarming rate but oil should stay on the inside ideally So as luck would have it, I have a spare, low mileage Eunos engine and gearbox in the garage which will take all of 3 seconds to transplant in! Heading down the workshop this evening with the new engine to get it all cleaned up nicely and to properly start the turbo build, which is exciting! Now to see whether or not I need another new ECU as this lump is an earlier model

Word. It's not a standard ECU I need unfortunately else it would be a piece of p*ss lol I've just bought a Megasquirt PNP2 for a few hundred quid which should see me on the way to 220whp with the injectors etc that I have. It's more of a shame since we thought that the current engine was decent as it made overstock BHP with minimal mods, but I guess it was it's final battle cry before sh*tting itself haha. Might as well get balls deep in a proper rebuild now!

Thing I was worried about is that the late mk1 engines are weird and have different looms/harnesses to the earlier ones so require a specific aftermarket ECU which I have bought, but now I'm going to an early engine so wasn't sure if it would work. Turns out that it shouldn't be too much trouble according to random internet helpers lol
Yeah it did, 20 years old and still pushing. It'll get a Viking burial.

My ECU arrived last week and all my parts including new engine are down at XDR for building! Excitement and enthusiasm has increased! I also decided that I didn't like the lipless look after all and managed to get a nice GV splitter again. This one is the flexi PU one rather than the crummy fibreglass one I had before. Much better!

Eeep! A deadline has been set. 1st of August for shakedown at Combe. Not a whole lot else to report as have been moving house for the last week and a bit, the little Five is sat on the road now and seems to be getting a lot of attention which is usually cool aside from when I had my E36 drifter parked in the same place, someone tried to steal it. At least the Five is insured for a lot more than it's worth

Bit of a shame your engine died, it was a stonker from what I remember at the RR day! Keep your chin up, good to see you making progress!

Bit of a shame your engine died, it was a stonker from what I remember at the RR day! Keep your chin up, good to see you making progress! Yeah it's a shame. It's still going and to be honest, hasn't lost any power but just taps away, it's not even that bad. Just sounds like lifters. Progress will be made at some point, just need to find some bolts to get the new lump on a stand, the standard gearbox bolts aren't long enough haha
