Very possible, it's had a hard life and although a lot of work has been done on engine & brakes, the bodywork has not been looked after. I'll have a better look underneath today if it stays dry Russell

Few bits fixed and a few more added to the car to get it a bit nicer while I drive it around ... all removable, but good to put my stamp on it even if it's only for a short time. Started with the soft top ... the previous owner had always used the hard top, and the soft top had completely dried out and hardened so needed replacing. Managed to find a cheap mohair, most importantly with a plastic rear window, not glass. Had to repair the rain rail with duct tape which isn't ideal, but this isn't exactly a concours car! I couldn't have picked a worse day to change the roof as it was chucking it down, spare time is hard to come by though so I had to just get on with it! Next up the interior ... I removed the seats and spent a bit of time cleaning the carpets and surfaces, before fitting one of my Roll Bars and then a Bride bucket seat. I also changed a few smaller bits around like clear reflectors and side repeaters. Not sure how far to go with the car as most of it will be temporary, but I've got a ticket to the MX5 evening at Caffeine & Machine so I'll see what else I can get done Russell

With all the covid stuff going on, I decided not to go to the mx5 meet ... once that was out, the blue car became less useful so rather than spending more time & money on it, I decided to sell it ... 2 days later it was gone, guess I should have asked a bit more!
I'm still waiting for the track car to come back so I started making lists ... what's going onto it and what's spare... I do tend to hoard stuff, so decided to start selling everything I won't need to clear the decks. The theory is to get space cleared, distractions out of the way and money in the bank so I can get the track car on the road ASAP when it comes back. It went for some minor fabrication on the cage ... getting the work done and the car back has been a bit of a game, but hopefully it won't be too much longer!
I'm in two minds over the weird brown auto thing ... the chassis is clean and solid, but it needs some work to put it back on the road. Although I don't really want to spend the time on it, I don't want to give it away as it's getting harder and harder to find solid base cars
Ultimately I don't really need it as a spare car, so I'll probably advertise it as a complete project... I have a standard front end and most of the manual swap parts needed so there's a lot of options depending on what people want
The V6 project is slowing a bit ... it's dawning on me just how complex it is. I need to do it on a relative budget, so I'll be developing a lot of the parts myself as I definitely have more time than money

Sold the auto, and as my timing was slightly off, today was crossover day ... New car! Thought I'd try something new so found a car I've wondered about for a while. As per usual it needs a bit of work but it's generally sound and won't mind being used in the autumn weather Russell

Nice, I've been looking at these recently, is it just an N/A? Interested to see how you get on with it.

Few bits of progress, trying to make sure I use my time / money carefully as I don't have much of either! I'd bought an MP62 supercharger kit a few months back ... but after much thought I decided to sell it last week. I think they are pretty much the sweet spot for an MX5 kit, but I want to get the car back on the road in a fairly simple format and the kit wasn't complete anyway. The long term plan is still to go to a much bigger engine, so it's an extra step I don't need. Managed to find some wheels ... not quite the perfect size but close enough, 6ULs in 15 x 7.5 and with a decent set of AD08r tyres Got them fitted straight away, the colour is pretty much spot on as well! Need to refit the brakes next ... most of the lines need replacing though so it's not a quick job Also managed to find some jap plates from Garage 502, hoping to get some more of their goodies fitted before too long as well! Thats a great find on the wheels man, and good you can be objective and see the bigger picture on what to do next. Easy to get carried away with "cheap" stop gaps to where you want to be. Some people don't have that patience though.
Whilst I do prefer the 14" on the NA I think the next set of wheels I buy will be 15s simply so I can fit those tyres, they are a bargin in that size at £60 each! So, if 15x7.5 is not the perfect size what is? Or is it just the offset is not on... I was looking 15x7.5J ET26 or 15x7.0J ET18 for example both of which should be a great fit... or are you looking for something wider?
Where are you guying the garage502 stuff from? I remember seeing a tidy oil cap from them similar to the C0rns one but can't find their stuff now...

They're on my track car, which is the 91 V spec I've owned since 09. Caged and currently totally stripped back to a rolling shell, it's heading gradually back towards road legal status. Saying that, the way work and life is at the moment, don't hold your breath!
They're 15 x 7.5, et 20. My idea of perfection is some 15 x 9s, like I had before but they're really hard to find and are more than I 'need' ... they look cool though and I like a lot of grip on my car rather than it moving around like some people prefer
Garage 502 stuff is via a contact in Japan. It's not officially available but I've helped them in the past so they were happy to help me out with sourcing a few bits. I have one of their oil caps, and had some mirrors but sold them ... big mistake, I didn't appreciate how they work as a company. They don't sell stuff all the time, they design something and then do a single short run of them, then go onto the next product. My mirrors were made in about 2012 and I bought them as a pre sold run of either 40 or 50 sets. Mine were one of (I think) 5 sets made with black stalks and bases, I sold them in 2015 and have been trying to replace them ever since!

I'd assume going that big you'd be wanting above a 225 as you can quite confortably get that on an 8. For a 9J, I mean without lots of rolling/arch extension as potentially lots of camber you'd need a pretty low offset to clear the strut if your on 235s+ surely? I'd probably go as far as an 8J +22 rim but on a 195 or a 205. I have absolutely no doubt thick 9s with the right amount of dish would look more than just cool Yeah I thought this, I was way too late in the game to get my hands on some of these things, had I been more proactive I'd have stock piled a few of these things over the years as a lot of these small tuners move onto the new cars pretty fast and don't go back. That said, its nice to see Maruha and Corns still pumping out parts now and again if you can navigate the difficulty of ordering them that is, and of course the pain of shipping/import duty etc.

I want to keep the standard arches and body line so I can still get into the standard hillclimb categories. A 225/45/15 tyre on a 9" wheel is the biggest tyre you can put on a 5 with the standard arches, without work on the arches or silly camber. The 9" 6UL is et 36, which doesn't need any special camber or arch pulling or anything. You need to fold the tabs back on the front but that's about it.
A 225 tyre on a 9" is faster than on an 8", the tyre moves around too much on an 8. On a 10", there's too much stretch and it gets slower again. My 7.5" wheels with 195 tyres gets the same effect, 195s are faster on a 7.5" than on a 6.5" or 7. 195 on an 8 is slower because of the stretch.
Obviously that's all for track speed and ultimate performance, but I like to plan for the times I made it to the track
