Couple of jobs carried out over the weekend, although no photos to show this time: swapped out the leaking cam seals for some new ones, swapped the LED headlights out for some Halogens now that the MOT requirements have changed, refitted the fuel filter cover, fitted headlight covers and the under-tray, removed and sold the front R-Package lip, got the car down off the jack stands and ran up and down the drive a couple times.
From start to finish the cam seal swap took about 2 hours, which I'm quite happy with in all honesty, I didn't remove the crank pulley or the tensioner spring and it all went quite smoothly. After an initial start-up and check it looks to have resolved the oil leak I was seeing at the front of the engine, adjusting the top rad hose has fixed the coolant leak in the same spot. Had a quick check after running it up the drive a few times and couldn't see any leaks, but will check again next time I move it.
In the process of trying to sort insurance and book it in for an MOT. hopefully get it on the road soon.
Been trying to decide what set of side stripes to fit now that the doors are swapped and rust fixed, had them sat waiting for two years and still don't know what colour to go!
Anyway, sold the r-package lip for a GV lip, so will get that fitted once it arrives, plan is to get some feed style side skirts to go along with it.
Hopefully next update it's MOT'd and on the road.

Cars actually gone and passed it's MOT with only 2 advisories: corrosion on a brake line and a small crack in the windscreen (passenger side). No one more surprised than me at this point, no oil leaks mentioned after it's maiden voyage. Plan now, use it for commuting to put some miles on it and the BOFI clutch. Oh and give it a wash, it's covered in dust and grease from being in the garage since November. Customary MOT picture: PSX_20210429_153901 by Scott Reid, on Flickr

What I feared was a slipping clutch/poorly installed clutch, I think is a bad connection to the Tachometer. Driving along at a constant speed at around 4k the needle becomes possessed and bounces around anywhere up to 7k, but the engine speed remains constant. I'll remove and refit the cluster and check the CAS plug.
On another note, the speedo, that used to also bounce around a bit, after fitting a replacement cable from Autolink now sits steady as.
Also, my cold idle isn't the greatest after fitting he mk2 IACV, so the sooner the Speeduino ECU goes in the better.
Edit: Bit of reading leads me to believe that it could be engine bay grounds as well, so I'll do both the cluster and check the grounds.

Great stuff! That's a really good result to pretty much fly through the MOT after all that work!

Great stuff! That's a really good result to pretty much fly through the MOT after all that work! You're telling me I keep checking the garage floor but I can't see any leaks either, maybe they're just lulling me into a false sense of security. Anyway, read an old post on Miata Turbo, about erratic tachometers, the way the signal is sent to the tach, if you've a bad engine ground you can experience the issues I was having. One post highlighted that on 1.8's especially, check the ground underneath the throttle body first. Out I went Saturday prepared to pull everything apart again, lo and behold.....the earth under the throttle body is loose. So problem fixed I hope. With time to kill, I gave it it's first wash since at least October last year. It's still a 10ft car, but nothing short of a lottery win will change that. Saying that, I'm going to try fit my side stripes next weekend, lipstick on a pig and all that . I was all set to try the bronze stripes, but the wife has decreed they're not going on the car (I sort of agree), so the Matte black stripes will go on instead a 'la Porsche Cayman Edition 1. If it looks mince at least it'll be subtle (maybe too subtle). Oh and bought a Cappuccino washer bottle off ebay, that comes with all the brackets to fit it up in the scuttle (the red and black floor tiles looked familiar in the photos?). Anyone know the size of the washer pipework and best place to get the fittings cheap? I'm guessing they'll all break when I take them off. And finally, looking at getting a DaveFab brake stopper, so I can fit my strut brace, so if anyone wants a Jass Performance brake stopper, that mounts to the top of the drivers strut, let me know as I'm going to take mine off soon.

Just a note, tightening that earth near the throttle body has cured my erratic tacho, so the clutch isn't slipping.
I've not been able to find any information on how many miles to break in the clutch, so I'm going to aim for 300-500 (or whatever I can achieve in 2 weeks/see below).
Managed to get a spot on a practice day for my second auto solo on the 22nd, really looking forward to getting back out to try it again, although I've now removed the bucket seat and harness so not sure how I'll get on yet.
Plan is to attempt to fit the side stripes this weekend, wish me luck, me and vinyl don't get along.

Fitted side stripes at the weekend, I've got bronze and matte black stripes, decided to try the matte black first. I've seen it done on a few black cars so thought worth a pop...couple thing's I've not accounted for: On those cars they've all got mirror finish black paint, they all live where it's sunny (so you can really see them). Going to try them for a couple weeks, if I just can't get along with them I'll be taking them off and going bronze or red, or whatever else I can think of. Couple quick phone pics to show what they look like: IMG_20210509_181129 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20210509_181520 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20210509_181740 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20210509_181527 by Scott Reid, on Flickr With light directly on it to show what it "should" look like in direct sunlight: IMG_20210509_182657 by Scott Reid, on Flickr And without: IMG_20210509_182647 by Scott Reid, on Flickr I might need to polish the paint and see if it looks better or not. Opinions welcome, good or bad, interested to see what folk think. THIS is what I was aiming for. Still waiting on the GV front lip from Bofi. Have asked for a 65mm M62 pulley for my birthday from the wife, slowly but surely building up parts for the supercharger build, 65mm pulley should see 230bhp, going off a local guys build who has a similar setup. I'm hoping with the BP4W, 2.25" full exhaust, I'll maybe give the charger a little easier of a time, but that'll all become apparent in time.

Then there’s “it’s so subtle why did I bother...”

The black would look good on my white car (though mine is a 20-footer so might just show up the bad paint even more!)

You know what, i think that DOES look smart with the matt black stripes but sadly they just blend in a bit toooo much - can see what you were aiming for! I agree, the bronze is the way to go and will be worth the faff swapping it all over. Get it done!

Hi Scotty. Hope you are well. Thought you like to see your old PanaSports on my car I've had part-resto'd since we last met. All new chassis & brakes, and a lot of rot dealt with....but not 100% happy with that yet. Still lots to do to "The Next Level" but it's getting there.

Hi ecosse, it's looking really good, I had seen you post some pics on the Mx5Scotland page, but the forum has gone now as far as I can tell? If you're getting the Panasports redone, gold with the BRG/Tan top would look really smart. Hopefully we'll get some decent weather soon!

Yup Scotty a light-ish gold is on the cards. As for Mx5Scotland it was taken out around the same time the "new" OC forum was launched. It was as dead as a doornail anyway...
