Looks like I got it back on the road just in time for some decent weather, after seeing the matte black side stripes out in the real world, they don't work but it was worth a shot. Started removing them, I think it's going to take longer to take them off than it did putting them on. One spot it's peeled the paint up, there's some corrosion underneath it so I'm guessing that's why, I'll try fix both before I put the bronze stripes on. Bought a DaveFab brake stopper, first piece I've bought from them and it's really nicely made/packaged, instructions look good as well. I'll get that fitted in the next couple days, then the cobalt 3 point strut brace can go on. Gave someone a lift the other day and I was very conscious that my HSD Dualtechs are rock solid and not really up to the state of local roads. I think I'm going to try pick up some second hand MeisterR Coilovers and move these on. They'd be perfect for a drifter/track car build. I was considering the Tein Street Basis Z or MeisterR Sportive Coilovers, but I like having the ability to adjust damping, for the rare occasion I might do autocross, it did make a huge difference stiffening up the rear. BUT, maybe these are good enough out the box, not quite sure what to do yet, suppose it depends on what becomes available over the next few months. Anyway, enough rambling for now

Out of interest, can’t you back off the shocks?

Out of interest, can’t you back off the shocks? I've ran them either full soft front and rear, most recently full soft front and 4 clicks from soft on the rear. It was a drift car so he may have swapped the springs for stiffer. I've just got no way of knowing. It's not unheard of hitting a bump that launches you out of your seat.

Might be worth contacting an HSD dealer & asking about replacement springs? Probably maybe cheaper than forking out for another set of shocks. It’s quite unusual IMHO to run the rear harder than the front. Having said that, I’ve lashed out on BC racing DS & they’re absolutely fantastic. The spring rates are quite high but I dial back the shock quite a bit- let the spring work & shock absorber damp is my theory.

Good Suggestion, had a quick look and they're £64 a pair, sent an enquiry off to HSD to see what they say. Only other issue would be the seized height adjustment rings on the drivers rear (maybe more now). If it turns out it's going to be an absolute chew to get them softened up a bit, maybe worth just going for a new setup. Maybe it's just a combination of short wheelbase and awful roads round here.

My HSDs are too stiff as well, but mine is in more urgent need of new rubbers/polybushes as it doesn't look like they've ever been changed

Do you know if they're early versions or the later? I've been given the info to check, but if mibe are later revisions then they're still rock solid! Don't know, they were on the car when I got it. How would I find out? Rear springs on the first revisions are 125mm in height on the rears (with the car in the air), but early HSD's only came with one set of spring rates (6kg on the rear). Looking at the website you can get 3 different spring rates now for Dualtechs: soft, recommended and track. I'm going to guess that I've not got soft at least, considering how low the car was when I got it and it was being used for drifting. If your springs on the rears are taller than 125mm, then they will be the newer design, there should be a sticker on the springs showing the spring rates. Been doing a lot of reading on opinions on the HSD's/Coilover options in general. Just a case of waiting to see what becomes available now.

Quick update, these side stripes are doing me in now, managed to get a decent method going for removing them, but it was slow going there for a while. In other news, the rust repair job strikes again! I don't know what stone chip he used under the paint but it doesn't seem to have dried, when taking off the vinyl on the drivers rear sill, it took some paint off down to the bare metal. I tried sanding it off but it's almost like a glue, so you have to scrape it off. So that's another unforeseen that needs resolved. At least I've found it so I can fix it. It got a lot worse from here before I figured out what was going on: IMG_20210524_174705 by Scott Reid, on Flickr DaveFab instructions handy for masking off for primer: IMG_20210524_193236 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Since I was already down there, spent some time fixing blemished on the bottom of the drivers door: IMG_20210524_214511 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Passenger side should go a lot smoother, as he hasn't touched the paint where the vinyl is. Also changed out my Jass Performance Brake Stopper, for a DaveFab unit, nice piece of kit, should allow the strut brace to be fitted once I adjust the induction kit routing: IMG_20210519_213131 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Finally got an email to say my new front lip has shipped, so hopefully it arrives soon.

Cheers guys, indeed not ideal, surely would have been ok if I'd just left the stripes on. At least this should be the only bit affected that the stripes overlap. Will just keep plugging away at it.

Had a trip booked with family up to Pitlochry for a couple days, decided to take the Mazda as the weather was looking utterly tropical this side of the border, managed to pack a lot more in the boot than I thought I would manage, 24 cans of Innis & Gunn in there as well as everything the wife would normally take, only took 6 attempts to pack it all in: IMG_20210529_111538 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Spent most of my time following the father in-laws Porsche (I cannot wait to fit the supercharger!): IMG_20210529_165559 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Car made it with no hiccups or any newly developed issues, I do desperately need to fit the ECU because the cold idle is rubbish and it runs on the rich side, but good news regardless that I've not ruined it yet. The rock solid suspension needs to go though.

Spent some more time in the last couple days painting the drivers rear sill, it's actually worked out pretty well in the end. Letting it gas off for a while before I polish it and re-apply the side stripes. IMG_20210605_183839 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Speaking of which, I removed the vinyl side stripes on the passenger side, whilst I waited, came off well enough, until I got to the "N", then the "O", then a big chunk under the stripe further back on the door. It's lifted great areas of paint so I set about fixing that as well since I had the paint out already. All's gone well here bar one run in the lacquer that I'm going to fix once it dries out a bit. Taking a more mechanical turn, my 65mm pulley for the M62 supercharger has turned up from Hungary, looks a really well made piece of kit. Should probably buy the remaining items to service the charger now. Auto-solo has been rescheduled for the 27th, so plan is to get it ready for that, clutch should be well bedded in by now.
