I might have been a giant idiot sandwich, when I swapped the head to the BP4W, when adjusting the idle I've adjusted the throttle stop......which you're not meant to do. I've done it on both the mk1 and mk2 unit (at least I'm consistent).
I need to try reset it and see if that helps with my weird non starting issue on the Speeduino, but that would explain why my cold start has been horrible since swapping the head.
Oh dear...

But it idles ok once it has started? When I was running on the standard ECU, idle would bounce around almost stalling, iin fact almost stalled at the top of the driveway a couple times, I'd need to hold it at about 1200rpm to stop it bouncing from 600-10000rpm. So I tried reverting back to the mk1 TB but unfortunately adjusted the throttle stop on it, replicating the problem. On the Speeduino ECU, if it catches and starts you've to hold it on the throttle until it gets within a range it can handle, once it's running it's as sweet as, but it's getting from cranking to starting without touching the throttle or holding it, that is eluding me currently. At least I now know why it idled like crap on the stock ECU.

I’d still check your cranking pulse width

I’d still check your cranking pulse width Hi @dabif, I had my Priming Pulsewidth up at 3.0, decreasing to 1.5, but the tuner had said that was too high. So currently they're sat at: Capture by Scott Reid, on Flickr I wasn't sure what high is, but I can increase them and see how it improves things. I do know why it's been cranking and not starting though, all relating back to me adjusting the throttle stop, after using it to adjust my hot idle it was effectively shut. So that's now been reset, cranking angle set to 0deg. and some cranking fuel added in. I'll see how it starts tonight and maybe increase the Priming PW to see if it improves things. I'm running out of time to get this thing road tuned before the MOT, so I might need to try road tune it myself now with autotune, it hot idles pretty stable @13.8AFR. I know how to lock off the idle cells when trying to road tune.

That’s your priming pulse, I was on about the cranking pulse, the fuel injected during cold start, like a choke in old money. These are my settings on my 1.6 supercharged with standard injectors. Sorry it’s on the piss, could not get it to upload correctly.

Thanks @dabif, sorry I misunderstood, I don't think I have access to cranking pulsewidth being that it's a Speeduino and not a MegaSquirt, which is a bit unfortunate! As I can't find a solution yet.

On a side note, I've been doing a lot of digging, as it's never started off the base map since day 1 and being that this isn't a standard mk1 1.8:
The engine is currently: Mk1/NA 1.8 block Mk2/NB 1.8 head Mk2.5/NBFL Flat Top Intake Mk2/NB fuel rail and FPR Mk2/NB Red Injectors Mk2/NB TB and IACV (2 wire, so single output on TS).
I've got my injectors setup on required fuel as 255cc as that's what they were tested at when I had them cleaned (no idea on at what psi though), but doing some digging the NA and NB FPR both run at different pressures (NA@43.5psi, NB@55psi)The injectors are either 238cc on an NA FPR or 268cc on an NB FPR., so I'll change to 268cc, which adjusts my require fuel from 12.1(ms)@255cc to 11.8(ms) @268cc.
On another tangent, the information I've managed to find regarding the NA and NB IACV is that the workable range for each is: NA 30-60%, NB 70-100%. The Speeduino doesn't have the IACV test feature like the MegaSquirt, but I can adjust the PWN Duty Cycle to replicate this and 70-100% seems to be correct.
So I'm going to try reset my required fuel and see if it fixes anything, information on what cc the 99-00 injectors are varies a lot depending on where you look, as well as I'm running the NB FPR and a Walbro 255 now.
Anyway, this is the latest strain of thought, if this fails I'm back to square 1 again!
MOT on the 28th, so I'm really running out of time now.

I was intrigued that you could not adjust your cranking pulse, it’s a pretty basic adjustment on any ECU, so I did a bit of digging. You can, it’s just called something different. Cranking enrichment. speeduino.com/wiki/index.php/Cranking

I was intrigued that you could not adjust your cranking pulse, it’s a pretty basic adjustment on any ECU, so I did a bit of digging. You can, it’s just called something different. Cranking enrichment. speeduino.com/wiki/index.php/CrankingThanks for finding that out Dabif, I think I've found 2 issues that were giving me the biggest issues (currently), setting the injectors to 268cc@60psi and the IAC values of 60-100%, as well as upping the IAC cranking duty and reducing the cranking enrichment. It was trying to chuck in too much fuel with the wrong injector values in it. Speaking to the tuner, I've got to balance the idle screw with the IAC Duty Cycle now, as blipping the throttle it almost dies after, which is essentially what happens on start up. So next step is to get that balanced otherwise I'll be stalling at junctions when I try road tune.

So after inputting the correct injectors and balancing the TB stop/Idle screw, I could no longer get it to start with throttle, so started the process of adding cranking enrichment, it now starts most of the time. Idles pretty happily and you can blip the throttle and it won't die. Only issue is the IACV sounds like an angry bee sometimes, so I need to adjust the values or the frequency a little. With that all improved enough, I thought get it off the jack stands and drive it up and down the driveway a couple times, first issue: front brakes are slightly seized on, so I had to spend a couple hours stripping them, cleaning them up and re-greasing. But...first time it's been out the garage since at least mid December: IMG_20220409_161851 by Scott Reid, on Flickr It needs a wash desperately. So now that I'm well on with tuning the idle, I took it on it'd first maiden voyage with the Speeduino, so fired up TunerStudios VE Analyze and off I went. 10 minute trip with the laptop running, only taking it up to 4k max and it came back with the following: IMG_20220409_175323 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Also came back with the added extra of a smoking passenger front brake, it was still slightly seized on and was roasting, woops! May need some more investigation unless the heat has unseized it. So once it cooled I thought I'd check and off I went for a 5 minute run up the road, this time taking a Datalog, to use Megalog Viewers HD VE Analyze tool when I got back, it gets a better review for auto tuning that the TunerStudio counterpart, more pings per cell the more educated the change will be, something like that. IMG_20220410_185151 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Red is pulled fuel and blue is added, it seems to have made a lot better job of adjusting the cells, so the plan is to continue doing short runs to allow it to dial in the VE table, whilst I continue to tune the cold/hot start and idle in the background, the hot start still needs some work as it doesn't start very well when at running temperature, which is an issue as I really need to go get some fuel! Passenger brake also didn't get as hot this time round so hopefully that's resolved itself but we shall see. MOT end of the month, so it's possible it might be ready.

Back from a holiday on the Sunday, MOT booked the Tuesday, I thought if it starts I'm sorted, good thing is it cold started fine, no issues. But a hot restart eluded me, had to go back through the TB and Idle screw adjustments again in the 11th hour. Dropped it off this morning for an MOT, so as is now customary, a pre MOT pic: IMG_20220426_085202 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Car's full of surprises, it's passed yet again! another year of motoring with only 3 advisories, 2 of which I knew about, the only new one being the rear pads will need changed out this year. Didn't even need to leave 20 quid on the passenger seat! (I don't know if that works or is just here say). I don't feel guilty of spending money on turbo parts now! So until the tuner is back onshore, I'll continue to pretend I know what I'm doing road tuning it. I've got a couple bits to go on before the tuner get's his hands on it, I bought some EV14 640cc injectors, oil drain kit, oil infeed reducer from BOFI, oil feed line from BlackCat Motorsport and some turbo studs from Horsham Developments. I think I still need a boost controller and I'm going to get a COPS kit from GFBDevelopments for my birthday, but at the minute I think that's everything that's outstanding at least. I'm sure there'll be something I've missed. I've prepped the wife I want a solid weekend on it when turbo time comes, after all these ECU shenanigans I'm hoping the turbo install is the easy bit!

Tune was in a running state, spent some time on the turbo assembly, fitting up the pipework adapter and bung on the cold side, as I'll be pulling reference pre throttle body for the actuator. IMG_20220428_212105 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Also my studs arrived from Horsham developments, cleaned threads and fitted. IMG_20220428_214113 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Thought I was on a roll, so mocked up the turbo, checked for leaks with WD40...uh-oh. Turbo's exhaust flange is needing flattened, so I'll drop that off with the downpipe elbow and hopefully collect the next day. Got my EV14 injectors delivered from BOFI, so set about getting them fitted, they're 640cc at 3bar on a mk1 FPR, but at 4bar which the mk2 runs at they're 730cc. IMG_20220501_181425 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Pretty easy to fit, only hindrance being that of the mk2.5 inlet manifold, which needs the top removed along with the throttlebody. IMG_20220501_183531 by Scott Reid, on Flickr With the adapters fitted: IMG_20220501_184143 by Scott Reid, on Flickr I've had to pull a lot of fuel out of the tune to get it to start, but it still idles rich, so will be spending some more time on it this evening, hopefully get it more dialled in, the VE table is going to need a lot of work to get it tuned in, these weren't quite fit and forget for me! Hopefully the COPS kit turns up this week.
