I have an 8 month old baby so time is something I don't have. Fixing and breaking a car is quite time consuming which leads me to think buying another is my best option. But to finance that I'm going to need the payout from my insurance and just take the hit on the premiums, only positive on that is my no claims is protected so shouldn't loose it.
Why is everyone against going through the insurance? Is it just because of the higher premiums or is it something else?

Also they will undoubtedly write off the car. Numbers of rust free cars are dwindling so if you do go through insurance buy it back and sell it to me and I will repair it and sell it on just to keep it on the road

Just go on a comparison site and put in that you have had an accident and it will soon illustrate how it affects your premium for the next five years. I had a lady go into the back of me nearly 3 years ago now, not my fault but it still affects my premium slightly.... and I get phone calls everyday from fecking accidental claims companies saying they have 3 grand set aside for me, I wasnt even in the car at the time. Does my head in, wish I hadnt got the insurance involved for the amount of damage it was. lesson learned for me.

I'm almost certain I've a headlight knocking about which you're welcome to if Reechard hasn't - located Reading. Sounds like your accident was due to diminshing braking distances - the first guy brakes hard, second guy takes time to react and brake, third guy takes time to react and brake and so on - by the time it reaches the fourth or fifth guy there's no time to react or brake. That's why you see so many motorway accidents where its cars further back which have ended up piled into each other. Only way to avoid it is by following three second rule Difficult to follow given crowding on motorwats as some tosser's always likely to fill the gap! Any tricky parts required drop me a PM. Cheers, Pewe

Right I have decided not to claim on the insurance but apparently I still have to report it "for information only." I will be replacing the car though and possibly breaking this one/sell it on to be fixed. Having a look at what's about and there's hardly any mk1's for sale!

Strictly speaking that is the case. If you do not advise your insurance company it could invalidate future cover/claim. However, it's definitely a case of "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

Well I've already spoken to Neil from Greenlight off the records but I'm not sure if anything is off the record! I don't want anything to come back and bite me in the rear canoe!

It's the cost of getting it sprayed that worries me! Dad told me I couldn't live with panels that are slightly off to each other so I'd need a full respray......I think he's right. I don't want to put anyone out of pocket and I don't want to waste anyone's time but I am very grateful for the offers.

Rather than worry about getting a colour matched bonnet (the panel that will stand out the most), get a black carbon fibre one on there!
Keep what you already have, just read your build thread on the other forum, be such a shame to break it and no guarantee you will find as nice a car. You also have the satisfaction you repaired it.

Right I've made my decision......again lol
I'm going to fix it......but as a project which might include paint! I'm also going to get another to drive every day! Haven't ran it past the wife yet but that's what I'm doing lol
Obviously I don't want to take advantage of anyone but if the offers are still there I'll take what you got. I completely understand if you want to keep hold of your parts as it's not something I need to do urgently and obviously the offers were there as a helping hand to get me back on the road.

You can have my headlight bits. It's Al there just sat in the garden, and the sidelight although one of my sidelights is melted a bit so I'm not sure which one! I can box them out and post them out if you pay the postage, they aren't that heavy.

Good good,i have managed to blag a van for tomorrow night,i`m collecting some more bits from Holmfirth,so it`s a short hop over the tops to Sheffield, the only problem is it will be about 9pm,so is there anyone in Sheffield(titch or maybe Gasper) who can hold or get this bonnet over to Rodders in the morning,so Horney can get it back down South? or can i lower it over the fence at Rodders ? I do like a challenge. lol ps,the bonnet is factory red,T cut and polished and looks exactly the same colour as the rest of the car or there is nothing stopping you doing a hand paint job, i did a MK1 Escort by hand in Ford rally yellow,it looked superb from 10 foot away. Don`t let your dad put you off,it will all work out fine
