Also, more B6t parts differences / info... the fuel rail on this engine is aluminium & fed from both ends, this saves possible fuel-starvation issues as found with single feed systems as theres no injectors at the 'end' of the rail so a more equil feed. also, I believe they are larger diameter? also, this engine has the legendary FI breather-vent valve that is inline between the inlet manifold & the camcover, specific to the turbocharged engines as can shut-off when theres boost to save pressurising the engine's voids Rich.

Of course, you could always sell it and make room in the budget for something else. Like you, I think the mx5 cover is nicer.

more lack of progress, been measuring & drawing sump designs, need to miss the steeringrack with the front scavange well so some consideration to that is underway did some more sandblasting, another diff case, I've already got one blasted & prepped for strengthening so if I'm getting one welded I'll get two done at the same time do I need a spare? do I need most of my car stuff?? its a little cleaner than when I bought it, had corrosion & underseal everywhere so was a mess Rich.

Very nice, I'd love to have mine looking like that as you say corrosion & underseal everywhere. Not having the tools/skills to set backlash etc I doubt mine will be off any time soon. I presume this is for the Mazdacomp diff?

Not having the tools/skills to set backlash etc I doubt mine will be off any time soon. if you have a read back ~ 20 something pages I documented a diff build, not rocket science BUT I have built a few & have a fair stock of tooling so I presume this is for the Mazdacomp diff? actually this is a later (post '93?) 7" diff housing, the earlier 6" is somewhat different alough looks similar I'm going to refresh the 6" diff in the future but probably mothball it if it does not get used on my '90 Eunos (going to the larger & stronger 7" diff on the silver heap, partly for longevity & partly for the ratios available as I have a 4.778:1 already built ) Rich.

another brake related sidetrack, I'd bought an el-cheapo ebay/china hydro handbrake to compare with a similar looking item in a mates WRC Focus (look similar but thats about it!) so I then decided to fit a hydraulic handbrake in the 5, the idea is to fit a cylinder & mount bracket and plumb into the rear line as a 'maybe' and if I decide the Panic-lever is needed then its easy to fit the handle / bar with 2 pivot-pins. the ebay offering, I've replaced the cylinder with a .625" AP Racing item, as this cylinder has offset mount-holes it can be fitted on it's side so no vunerable hose-fittings sticking up in the air the AP Racing cylinder had a short m8 threadded push-rod so I machined a 30mm long / m8 threadded sleeve to connect it to a male threaded m8 rosejoint. close up of the sleeve... another hour gone and still no progress...... maybe tomorrow Rich.

another sidetrack... I've a pair of rear hubs & lower wishbones from the '89 Mx5 I stripped a few years ago, decided to have a real try at splitting them.... the long bolt was solid in the hub but after some persuasion loosened in the wishbones bushes as was rusted solid to start with. as an effort to clean the rust I sandblasted the visable section in the hub then sprayed with a penetrant of some kind... potato phone photo... some grief with the press.... bolt still frozen in the hub, hub pressed through the wishbones bush sleeve time fir dynamite I'm looking at making tubular rear lower wishbones as I've seen origonals with a lot of rust & after this incident with the press I'm concerned about the strength of the bush tubes - the one dameged in the press was very thin more work But as Wales is in Lockdown theres plenty of time Rich.

Fuel pipe... something we take for granted my Eunos is ~30 years old so at a guess the ubber hoses are probably past their best & as I'm looking at re-locating the fuel & brake pipework from underfloor I'm being swayed towards stainless-braided ptfe hose for the main feed & return lines from the tank @ rear to the fuelpressure regulator underbonnet... the ptfe hose uses a 'compression' type fitting to connect to anything unlike rubber hose that can slip-over a pipe stub - more expense. as the standard Mazda fuel tank top / pump & sender cover has 8mm o/d metal pipe-stubs for rubber hose I'm going to adapt to use AN6 threadded fittings for -6 braided hose. so, can buy push-fit to threaded adapters but I don't like the 'extra' possible leak point so will look at brazing a steel threaded boss to the steel pipe-stubs, hopefully a safer option www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AN-6-AN6-Male-Mild-Steel-Weld-On-Fitting-Bung/171365887456as example of the weld-on male fittings. I have considered making them myself by cutting a section from a 9/16 x 18tpi bolt then machining the sealing seat and drilling for fuel flow and what I need to adapt onto... more consideration to come as I'll need to plan where the pipes will run, MSAUK have decreed that pipes / hoses & wiring must run along the centre of the car aparently so that changes things slightly if I want to use the car in competition. Rich.

plumbing the brake system, I'm using braided hose throughout so condensed all my hose-fittings in a box... ~6m of hose and a few fittings... a few and, a few more fittings on the handbrake & clutch master cylinders & a few on the main brake-pedalbox master cylinders (already on the car) subject of clutch master cylinder, the standard Mazda fit item has a 16mm or 5/8" bore but as I'm intending to use an AP Racing multiplate clutch I've been thinking of going to a larger bore master to soften the pedal weight (race clutches can be a bit heavy!) and to improve the feel (race clutches also have a narrow window between of & on) so I happen to have a 20.65 mm or 13/16" cylinder so I may try that..... anyway, projekt plumbtheb astard is starting Rich.

so, I bought a pair of steel 'weld-on' AM6 threaded fittings, arrived quickly! well, today, so nextday I've had a few other hose fittings in a drew for ages so went diggin... these are to fit on rubber lined braided hose so if I decide on ptfe / braided hose for the main lines from front to back then these will get used underbonnet. subject of underbonnet, have a few pressure regulators to choose fron the spoils of hoarding Rich.
