another change of plans..... not going to use the 'sport' (270x22mm) front brakes, just bought some MX-5 ND 2.0 front discs (280x22mm) and will order another Wilwood caliper to suit. if I'm going to hell then I need to stop when I get there hope his works Rich.

Makes sense when you already have one.. well, if you'd seen my garage / workshop / shed(s).... although evrything is soaking there now a Vauxhall 20XE... water drops on the pulleys definately needs a strip & rebuild now (not that ~15 years in the shed without turning hasn't pointed towards this anyway....) the engine I'm still trying NOT to fit in the 5...... Rich.

ND 2L discs arrived... Genuine NB 'sport' disc (270mm) on left, Borg & Beck ND disc (280mm) tight / top. is it worth it for 5mm a side? interesting vent profile on inner side... the genuine disc has thicker friction faces but thinner 'vents'. 5mm a side.... the ND design has a narrowing of the vent @ the centre, a 'venturi' effect maybe? I was intending to run a cooling-duct to aim towards the hub / disc centre so will this affect it'e efficientcy? Wilwood Dynalite sized pad on each disc... the NB 'sport' disc & Dynalite caliper.... same from rear... ND disc & Dynalite caliper... same from rear... so, 10mm diameter larger disc, will it improve breaking OR will there be a weight peanalty & maybe 'flywheel inertia' to consider as theres more mass @ larger diameter??? Am I overthinking.... Next.... Rich.

also, another tangent... tacometers I have a 'Racers Choice (rebranded 'Elliot) 0-10K with white face & telltale in the car, a spare 'Elliot' 0-10K with black face in a draw & recently recieved a pair of 'RP' (Race Parts - now sold as 'Racetech') tacometers... the RP tacometers are similar but one is electronic with telltale & reset functions and the other is oldsckool chronometric (realtime windey-up via cable drive from engine) naturally I'm drawn towards chronometric, why make life easy? Rich.

I am surprised how much of the pad misses the disc on the Wilwoods, a better shoes calliper and pad is required. All that you gain with 4 pot calliper is lost.

I am surprised how much of the pad misses the disc on the Wilwoods sorta why I posted the photo's All that you gain with 4 pot calliper is lost. yes & no... lighter caliper & (hopefully) better pad-pressure compared to oem single piston sliding type ever seen a real racing setup? large diameter disc and the pad area clamps a small area (with a 'long' pad) at the outside of the disc - sprta like the old 'long-spanner / short spanner' comparison taught in school re. mecanical advantage / moments of a force 330mm dia disc (iirc) anyway, back to ND disc & wilwood pads, I have too much stuff... EBC Dynalite pad and Ferodo Superlite pad for comparison.... I looked into the Superlite caliper but size has some complications.... theres quite a thicknedd sifference here unfortunately this is good as more friction material BUT using the Superlite would mean more wheel ofset issues as spokes could clash with the caliper body.... anyway, as I've dug up these pads (3 sets....) I think its time they found new homes. Rich.

the silver car had no external boot key-lock when I bought it (previous owner removed it & fitted a solenoid / press-button that I didn't like...) so I'd fitted another lock but it had a different key as was part of a set from the orange car... ebay again and another lock (less key) landed so stripped the barrel out & altered the plates to fit the single key that operates the ignition / door locks on the silver car... unfortunately it took an hour to 'pick' the lock & remove it from the housing - embarassing once it was stripped I discovered the reason I failed to pick it quickly, there was one broken plate that stopped me lowering it to turn the barrel> ... the brass plates were swapped around to get the best profile then ground the tips to fit. bits evrywhere, and springs 'sprung' as offerings to the 'Flor-God' spare bits! didn't need all the plates to operate, not like I'm going to be parking the car anywhere with anything valueable in the boot.... can see the broken plate, the 'U' shaped item..... next time its not raining I'll fit it BUT that might have to wait a while! Rich.

I have a solenoid fitted, but retained the key at the same time, easy enough to do with an ordinary door solenoid.

been collecting bits slowly for the white car, as it'a an early (ish, feb '90 so first year production) Eunos theres some parts that were only fitted for the first few months and others for the first year. one of the different parts was the dash cluster. tripped over a UKdm cluster so stripped & cleaned it ready to store, the UK cars had an MPH speedometer and a UK mot legal rear foglamp telltale in the clusters central illuminated warnings. as assembled. easier to see with the 'screen' removed. the centre illuminated. the central warning film, Eunos Roadsters have a 'heat' warning for thr catalytic converter. I've already found & fitted one of these in the silver car's cluster. quite high millage but easily altered to match the cars origonal (once converted from km's). for records, the cable / drive to speed ratio of the UK spec mph speedo. Rich.

more outlay & still nothing assembled I've already got a 2 1/2" bore repackable silencer (made by TLE) but it's scruffy & was previously fitted to a mk2 escort so has an axle 'up&over' pipe bend 'welded' to it so would need some serious grinding to prepare before welding suitable ppe bends for Mx5 fittment, ebay again & a cheap nearly new TLE and 63mm / 2 1/2" bore silencer was found.... theres a mount, flange & skid been added but should be easily removed. these are repackable, something that adds to longevity in competition cars as theres a (96db?) noise level and generally after a few rallies (would be more hillclimbs or sprints?) the noise-test can become an issue. these silencer box dimensions are: 500x180x105mm. from my guesswork this makes it narrower than the cobalt thats currently fitted but possibly a bit longer if needed I can cut the box shorter & re-bolt the endcap hopefully without much impact on the noise levels... one question I have is the bore, is 2 1/2" too big for the 1.6? ideally I'd like 2 1/4" but will try it & find out the hard way Rich.

Well done if you managed to remove the speedo front screen in one piece, took me a couple goes.
Gathering parts is still progress on a project, should make it easier once it all starts to come together, looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Think the little silver MK1 Eunos I used to sprint/hillclimb had a red band starting a little higher on the rev counter? It’s that a UKDM slightly lower rev limit?
